Churchill to the French High Command May 15, 1940:

'Ou est la masse de manoeuvre?' (Where are the reserves?) the answer was, 'Il n'y a aucune!' (There is none!)"

The last marching unit in the Bastille Day Parade is always a unit from the French Foreign Legion. The use a completely different pace, 88 steps per minute instead of 120 steps per minute. Its called the Crawl and gives the Legionaires a unique appearance when the march. And whenever the Legion passes the crowds always applaud. Very impressive to watch.

The scene in Casablanca is the turning point of the whole picture. Before that Rick (Bogart) is a cold cynic who sticks his neck out for no one. After that, he has sided with the forces fighting Nazism. The film reflects America’s indecision over the war and how we too, like Rick, join the fight to rid the world of fascism. Viva La France!

“After that, he has sided with the forces fighting Nazism.”

Me thinks he was siding with Ilsa.
