Statement by the President (on the passing of Tony Snow)
NY Daily News ^ | Saturday, July 12, 2008 | President Bush

STATEMENT BY THE PRESIDENT

“Laura and I are deeply saddened by the death of our dear friend, Tony Snow. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Jill, and their children, Kendall, Robbie, and Kristi. The Snow family has lost a beloved husband and father. And America has lost a devoted public servant and a man of character.

“Tony was one of our Nation’s finest writers and commentators. He earned a loyal following with incisive radio and television broadcasts. He was a gifted speechwriter who served in my father’s Administration. And I was thrilled when he agreed to return to the White House to serve as my Press Secretary. It was a joy to watch Tony at the podium each day. He brought wit, grace, and a great love of country to his work. His colleagues will cherish memories of his energetic personality and relentless good humor.

“All of us here at the White House will miss Tony, as will the millions of Americans he inspired with his brave struggle against cancer. One of the things that sustained Tony Snow was his faith – and Laura and I join people across our country in praying that this good man has now found comfort in the arms of his creator.”

Amen. Thank you President Bush - for these kind and true words. And thank you, Tony Snow, for your life well lived and your faith in God.

May the Holy Spirit comfort and strengthen your beloved wife and children and go with them holding them close, guiding and protecting them, all the days of their lives.

America has lost another great one.

We also lost a beloved FReeper FRiend. Tony Snow was active here from the early days and continued until he became WH Press Secretary. He just recently reinstated his membership.

Just a few weeks ago it was announced that Tony Snow would be headlining a charity fundraiser in Midland, TX.

From MyWestTexas:

Published: Wednesday, June 25, 2008 2:36 PM CDT

Centers for Children and Families' "An Evening With ..." fund raiser this year features as its celebrity presenter former White House Press Secretary Tony Snow. The 7th annual event will be on Tuesday, August 5 at the Midland County Horseshoe.

Snow served the George W. Bush Administration from May 2006 to September 2007. In addition to his position as press secretary in the George W. Bush White House, he served as Director of Speechwriting and as Deputy Assistant to the President for Media Affairs for President George H.W. Bush in 1991.

He has spent a quarter of a century in the news business. He’s worked in all three major media – print, radio and television. He’s best known for his seven year stint as the host of FOX News Sunday and is currently a conservative commentator for CNN.

Snow was born in Berea, Ky., and was raised in Cincinnati where his father taught social studies and was an assistant principal. His mother was a nurse who died of colon cancer when he was 17. Snow obtained his BA in Philosophy from Davidson College. He taught physics and geography in Kenya and also worked as an advocate for the mentally ill and developmentally disabled in North Carolina.

In February 2005 Snow was diagnosed with colon cancer. He has successfully fought the disease twice and is now on the national speakers circuit and is a guest on television and FOX News. Tony is an avid musician and is married with one son, two daughters, three dogs, a cat and three guinea pigs.

There are not many public figures for whom I would shed a tear. But I do for Tony Snow. He was just so nice. Just damn. My sympathies to his family.
