I suggest we kick out an illegal alien for every one of these people that come here. Including whole families.

That's a Happy Meal:)

I don’t like this idea much. Didn’t papa Bush do something similar after Desert Storm? And wasn’t there speculation (Jayna Davis, I think) that John Doe #3 from the O.K.C. bombing (and possibly employed at Logan International on 9/11) was one of these Iraqi imports? How many, out of 27,500 are former sadam loyalists or worse? I don’t mind bringing some in, under RR’s rules of trust but verify, but over 25,000 at once?

"To accept your premise is to give lie to the administration's stated purpose for being there in the first place."

No. I compare them to the French resistance, Basques, Italians, Slovenes etc. that came here or Canada after WW2. There were a lot of bombings and asassinations of those people after that war was over by still-NAZI sympathizers. A different civilization with the same end result.

Wait until a treaty gets hammered out with a status-of-forces agreement. We will have guest bases there as part of Iraqi bases. Their military will come here for advanced or special training or vacation as guests also. Our Congress and their Parliament will be talking/meeting with each other after the diplomats lay out the points and needs of both countries. That will take time.

A Treaty is not a screw the U.S. Citizens amnesty bill.

As I read it in the second paragraph, they are not coming in all at once but 5,000 per year over five years.

Here are the current population stats for Israel. These are real numbers, not some reporter’s conjecture. They speak for themselves - the population is increasing due to birth and immigration.

Wow, just reading a few comments here is enough to convince me some people just don’t want anyone coming here.

Think they’d be happy to stay there? What, when they and their families are targeted for murder, what good will a free Iraq do for them then?

These are people who may be in danger of their lives and I think they deserve to come here. We did the Vietnamese who helped us a great disservice leaving them to the killing fields.

I wish to rephrase the above.

“When they and their families are targeted for murder because they helped us! What good would a free Iraq do for them then?”

They put themselves in danger to help us at tremendous risk of their own lives. Note many Iraqi’s were afraid to do that and sided with Al Quaeda because of that fear. I can’t say I blame them, I rather like my family and would not do something to put them in danger. They did and they deserve a reward for that.

I don’t see any Israelis running away from Israel. ..... CdMGuy

How many Israelis do you actually know? (Article about Israeli emmigration) .... Polybius

Here are the current population stats for Israel. These are real numbers, not some reporter’s conjecture. They speak for themselves - the population is increasing due to birth and immigration. ..... CdMGuy

What the heck does the fact that non-Israelis are immigrating to Israel and the fact that Israelis are having sex and procreating have to do with your original blanket statement that "I don’t see any Israelis running away from Israel" and the entire touchy subject of emmigration from Israel?

Maybe you don't know a single Israeli that has his eye on an American girl and the Green Card that marriage to her would bring but I do.

You don't believe the numbers quoted by the reporter in the first article I posted?

Fine. Here is hard data on Israeli emmigratrion for you.

Recent Trends in Emmigration From Israel ...... Presented at the annual meeting of the Assiciation for Israel Studies, Jerusalem, July 2004

I had an Iraqi soldier named Omar who worked with me for about six weeks last fall. Apparently, he'd saved several American soldiers during an ambush and ended up with a bounty on his head, so the US packed him up and shipped him to the States. He stayed here for only a few months before deciding to go back and fight for his country.

The last I heard, he was back in the Iraqi Army and happy as a clam.
