Pelosi wants Bush to release oil from strategic reserve By Mike Soraghan Posted: 07/08/08 06:12 PM [ET] House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is calling on President Bush to release oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve in order to bring down prices.

Pelosi (D-Calif.) announced to Democratic leaders Tuesday night that she has written a letter to President Bush, urging him to release a “small” amount of oil from the government stockpile to increase supply and decrease prices, a leadership aide said.

In the letter, Pelosi said the price of a barrel of oil has risen nearly five-fold during Bush’s tenure and called the effects "devastating."

"These are the kind of circumstances, in addition to national security, in which utilization of the Strategic Petroleum Reserve is more than justified," Pelosi wrote in the letter, dated Tuesday.

Took the words right from my keyboard. Pelosi is an idiot...and Congress wonders at their low approval rating.

Nancy, this would not be nearly enough over the long term. Also, the SPR is for national emergencies, not cheap political posturing. Friggin’ drill, you dessicated gasbag.

Maybe the voters of CA need to do some power walking. They are so worried about obesity, why do they need cars or planes at all?

Hey, be nice. That’s easier than drilling ... and it saves her nails! :)

What, she wants to drill for oil in the SPR? But I thought extra U.S. supplies wouldn’t help at all? And how does this help us kick our addiction to oil?

She keeps looking for new things to do, in the hopes that something they do will coincidentally correspond with a drop in oil prices.

A few weeks ago, she had to argue that the things they had done had kept oil from going up even MORE than it did.

And she must be kicking herself — they go on a vacation, and while they are out, oil drops 10 bucks — and they can’t claim credit because they did nothing the last week.

Amazing how a temporary release from the strategic oil reserves is a good thing but drilling for a long term supply increase is bad. Idiot isn’t strong enough to describe Pelosi.

I would expect something more meaningful from a leader of an organization that has dropped to single digit approval ratings. Release oil from our strategic reserve? That’s it? What happens when that is gone? Add that to Obama and our 57 states and we’ve got real trouble ahead.

The enemy would love that.

Only question is -- does she want to help the enemy or is she just stupid?

Dubya should release enough to tar and feather Ms. Pelosi and all her democRAT partners in crime. This would be an appropriate use of the SPR in my opinion.

“What, she wants to drill for oil in the SPR? But I thought extra U.S. supplies wouldn’t help at all?”

This is KEY! The socialists say we can’t drill our way out of dependance, but they want to release strategic reserves to lower prices.

One might infer that their intent is to eliminate our strategic backstop against a real crises to weaken the country.

In other times treason carried a death penalty.
