The peer pressure is enormous and spans generations.

True. I'm not a fan of Charles Barkley, and I'm not sure of his current political leaning, but I recall some years ago, his mother found out that he was a Republican. She said, "Charles! How could you? Only rich people are Republicans!" He said: "Momma, I am rich!"

I don't actually agree that "only rich people are Republicans" but it shows a degree of peer pressure in the black community that Republicans are "the other" they cannot be "us".

It will probably take an extraordinary Conservative black politician to kill the monopoly the rats have on them.

Any group that is monolithic in their voting habits is ripe for abuse.

I’ve heard Charles Barkley talk about the importance of blacks taking responsibility for themselves and not relying on the government. It seemed that his head was in the right place. IIRC, after he was questioned about it, he was pretty quick to make it clear that he is not a republican.
