Obama to accept nomination 'for entire American people' (barf-up a lung Alert)
Obamanation Headquarters | 7/7/08 | Plouff

Posted on 07/07/2008 11:52:38 AM PDT by pabianice

Friend --

I wanted you to be the first to hear the news.

At the Democratic National Convention next month, we're going to kick off the general election with an event that opens up the political process the same way we've opened it up throughout this campaign.

Barack has made it clear that this is your convention, not his.

On Thursday, August 28th, he's scheduled to formally accept the Democratic nomination in a speech at the convention hall in front of the assembled delegates.

Instead, Barack will leave the convention hall and join more than 75,000 people for a huge, free, open-air event where he will deliver his acceptance speech to the American people.

It's going to be an amazing event, and Barack would like you to join him. Free tickets will become available as the date approaches, but we've reserved a special place for a few of the people who brought us this far and who continue to drive this campaign.

If you make a donation of $5 or more between now and midnight on July 31st, you could be one of 10 supporters chosen to fly to Denver and spend two days and nights at the convention, meet Barack backstage, and watch his acceptance speech in person. Each of the ten supporters who are selected will be able to bring one guest to join them.

Make a donation now and you could have a front row seat to history:

As an American, I reject his offer and call on him to abdicate the nomination to Zel Miller or Joseph Liebermann.

He might be surprised at a lower than expected turn out. He is not the candidate his supporters once knew.

BTW, is this a ruse to get around a convention vote?

"This is sicker than calling the Cowboys “America’s Team”!"

If that was meant as a slam or to get a rise out of me it didn't work...I'm a transplant. Grew up in California, Florida and Iowa and I've been a fish fan since I saw them in-person in the 1972 Superbowl (when they were undefeated). Did enjoy seeing the Cowboy's cheerleaders in Korea on a USO tour, though.

The convention starts on the 25th and ends on the 28th. Before the 28th, when BO with brazen hubris will accept the will of the people, the voting will occur.

so now, we’ve gone from having an American Idol version of the Presidential election to having Presidential lottery offerings!

This guy is being sold to the public like a product - a product nobody has ever used before so there are past customers to call up and ask how they liked it.

And John McCain is relishing his ‘underdog’ status so he can run from outside the GOP. What a schmuck. He has no state organizations anywhere but Arizona since he spent so much time running against the people who normally give up their time and money to operate those state campaigns. Those ‘independents’ might show up on election day but they don’t donate money and they don’t waste their time working for anyones campaign. They expect to just show up at the polls and have the guy they vote for win (which could explain how independents tend to go the way that the pre-election polls go).

The RNC should cut the delegates from any state who has an ‘open primary’ in 2012. Either the GOP is a party for Republicans or it is just an open tent for any saboteur to walk into on election day (like they did in 2008). And if the majority of Republicans can’t even nominate their own candidate then there is no point in being a party.

And I thought that smarmy salute of John Francois was bad...

Go right a head, overplay your hand and accept the nomination for the “entire American people.” That spectacle shouldn't cost you any more than 1-2 million votes. And it'll provide great footage for attack ads. Just don't be surprised when 50% (and hopefully more) of the entire American people vote against you, Barack, my lad.

Sheesh, what an I * D * I * O * T.

Wonder what Colorado's laws say about running a private lottery.

The FEC probably has a prohibition on such a contribution scam as well.

Another thing to consider, by setting the threshold at $5, they will be soliciting a lot of “first time donor” $5 contributions.

Bet you a dollar that the Obama campaign will use this later in the campaign to discuss the “average” donation being much lower than it had been prior to this ruse to solicit many small bids to offset the maxed out contributions of fat cat donors.

Is it legal to run a national lottery or raffle?

That was my question. Someone needs to put it to the Federal Election Comission and if it is an illegal solicitation offer, file a complaint.

http://www.fec.gov/pages/brochures/complain.shtml

Filing a Complaint Any person may file a complaint if he or she believes a violation of the Federal Election Campaign Laws or Commission regulations has occurred or is about to occur.
The complaint must be made in writing and sent to the Office of General Counsel, Federal Election Commission, 999 E Street, N.W., Washington, D.C. 20463. The original must be submitted along with three copies, if possible.
Facsimile or e-mail transmissions are not acceptable. A complaint must comply with certain requirements. It must:

Provide the full name and address of the person filing the complaint (called the complainant); and Be signed, sworn to and notarized. This means that the notary public's certificate must say "...signed and sworn to before me...," or words that connote the complaint was affirmed by the complainant, (such as “under penalty of perjury”).

Furthermore, in order for a complaint to be considered complete and proper, it should:

Clearly recite the facts that show specific violations under the Commission's jurisdiction (citations to the law and regulations are not necessary);
Clearly identify each person, committee or group that is alleged to have committed a violation (called the respondent);
Include any documentation supporting the allegations, if available; and
Differentiate between statements based on the complainant's (the person who files the complaint) personal knowledge and those based on information and belief. Statements not based on personal knowledge should identify the source of the information.

PDF of FEC Laws here:

http://www.fec.gov/law/feca/feca.pdf

Someone with a better background in legalease than I have should go over it. I searched for terms like lottery, solicitation, raffle, etc. I also looked over a number of passages from the table of contents. Didn't see anything that specifically addressed it one way or the other. That is me.

Again, do not file a complain without finding some FEC law that they are violating.

You can also investigate where there are grounds to file a complaint with the Colorado Secretary of the State:

http://www.sos.state.co.us/pubs/Bingo_Raffles/bingo_raffles_laws_rules.html

Is it wrong that I am sooooo looking forward to the FR DNC live thread?? I predict it will be epic.

BTW, last Thursday on my way home from work I got stopped at a commuter train. There were these kids out on the corners handing out DNC propaganda (they had t-shirts on that said “DNC” in huge letters) to people walking to/from the trains. Is getting democrat votes in the Chicago area really a problem?? Seems a little like preaching to the choir.
