Tiptoeing on Bush and Convention
New York Times ^ | July 5, 2008 | SHERYL GAY STOLBERG

WASHINGTON — What if your family was planning a big end-of-summer bash (a Grand Old Party, you might call it) but preferred that you not be seen — or heard?

That is the question hanging over President Bush, with eight weeks to go until Republicans gather in St. Paul to nominate Senator John McCain as his successor. Convention planners, the White House and the McCain campaign are wrestling with how to choreograph a proper send-off for Mr. Bush — sure, his poll numbers are in the tank, but he is still the party leader and president of the United States — while hustling him out the door in time for Mr. McCain to look like his own man.

Simple. Throw Bush under the bus! That means having him deliver a very short keynote address.

Or he could stay away if McCain requests it.

I would bring Pres. Bush in but would bar McCain from attending.

How about having Bush stand under a banner with McCain that says NOMINATION ACCOMPLISHED. Yeah, that’ll work... LOL.

+1 - Love it!

Reality is GWB is going to be looked at very kindly in histories eyes - He has been one hell of a leader and exactly the right man this nation needed for the last 8 years - On the whole -

GWB is greatly respected by most American's (whether they want to say they support the "job" he is doing in a poll is a whole other matter).

It is also pathetic of some in our base....to suggest he should stay away. He is a damn fine man, one hell of a CinC and the reality is he went 3 for 4 in elections he over saw (2000, 2002, 2004 and 2006). Only in the GOP do we eat our own so disgustingly. After all this man has done, all he has taken on over the past 7 years, all the hate thrown at him via the left and pathetic MSM. All because he stood up for this great country, because he is a man of God, because he led the world in fighting this WOT....and because he is a Republican....

God bless the man and his family.

By "this nation" you mean "Mexico," right?

Well stated! I have some disagreements with some of Pres. Bush’s agenda but it was never a mystery. Nearly everything he has championed in office he ran on as a candidate. One thing you have to give GW Bush, he is as steady as they come and a man of his word.

Hmmm, I thought he promised NOT to piss away American treasure and spill American blood on foreign adventures.

The 9/11 attack changed all that. It was either sit and wait to be attacked again or go on the offensive. Overwhelmingly, the American people said, “Go on the offensive”. Of course, they were all angry when they said that. Unfortunately, many of the American people do not have the same strength of resolve as Pres. Bush.

Do a huge send up with video, testimonies, music and tributes. No apologies. Stop playing defense and play offense. W has been one of the greatest presidents this nation has ever seen

(yes I know not perfect, jeez. . .)

and shout it from the rooftops and thank him from the bottom of your hearts -

come on, RNC

Call me crazy, but shouldn't securing our borders have fit in there somewhere? Kind of pointless to fight a war against a enemy with no uniforms and no nation while still allowing anyone and everyone to pour across our borders virtually unchecked. I'm just saying...
