Military service: A diminished campaign asset?
MSNBC ^ | July 1st, 2008 | Tom Curry

WASHINGTON - Once asked how he became a war hero, John F. Kennedy said, "It was involuntary; they sank my boat."

Historian and Kennedy aide Arthur Schlesinger said this "deflationary wartime understatement" was an example of Kennedy’s nonchalance.

In 1943, a Japanese destroyer sliced Navy Lt. Kennedy’s PT-109 in half, plunging his crew into waters aflame with fuel. As skipper, Kennedy saved the crew.

Likewise, John McCain became a war hero when the North Vietnamese shot down his Navy plane. He endured more than five years as a prisoner of war.

And during George H.W. Bush's 1988 presidential campaign, the candidate emphasized that he too had became a war hero — by being shot down.

His campaign featured footage of Navy aviator Bush, only 20 years old at the time, being rescued by the USS Finback after the Japanese shot down his plane on Sept. 22, 1944.

Direct assault on Kerry Four years ago, the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth mounted a direct assault on Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry. And they attacked the one asset thought to be invulnerable: his Vietnam veteran credentials.

Normally, I don't buy into the whole "This issue will backfire on the media" hype, because often times it doesn't. This, however, seems like a place that the Dems and liberal MSM might not want to go.

I wonder why PMSNBC never brought this up in the 2004 campaign? Don’t these guys ever get tired of being painfully obvious? I can’t wait until they start telling us that a Muslim upbringing really doesn’t mean anything.

What was Obama doing when McCain was in the Hanoi Hilton? Learning to ride a tricycle? Bowing to Mecca three times a day in Indonesia?

Lets see, Dole not a hero, Kerry is a hero, McCain not a hero....I’m getting dizzy trying to keep up with the DNC sockpuppets.

If you like $5/gal, Thank Congress. If you want $10, Vote Obama.

Pray for W and Our Troops

Funny you would mention that. I was at the Stone Store today (yea, yea, went to get a pair)and the kid loading the stone said "What the hell is this country coming to running a Muslim for President?"

I thought this was all Red State Bible thumping stuff, not Blue State Maryland fare.

Very odd!

Could read:

Experience....a diminishing campaign asset

Truth....a diminishing campaign asset

American....a diminishing campaign asset

FlipFlopping....a growing campaign asset

The primary attack of the Swift Boat Vets was against what a traitor Kerry had been when he came home and testified before Congress about how his fellow vets were baby killers who acted like Genghis Khan.

I guess. I could theoretically live with muslim, albeit with some suspicion, given muslisms behavior throughout the world.

But Obama is dishonest about his muslim background, which makes me suspicious.

I also sincerly doubt any actual Christian (by which I mean one who believes Christ died for ones sins, any denomination is fine) could sit in that anti-semetic, kill-whitey “church” for 20 years.

"Lets see, Dole not a hero, Kerry is a hero, McCain not a hero"

Clarence Thomas a sexual predator, BJ Clinton not a sexual predator, Ahnold Jerkinator a sexual predator (when he was a Republican).

Gerry Studds not a child molester, Mark Foley a child molester.

Three things are certain: Death, taxes, and the brazen hypocrisy of liberal pigs.

Even Carter played up his naval service during his campaign.

It's when the Democrat doesn't have a war record that the Republicans shouldn't be allowed to use his war record.

How about McCain’s sons? At least one of the kids is serving right now in Iraq. McCain has a great story to tell. But someone has to tell it for him.

James McCain came home from Iraq in February.

Why should someone tell it for him.

He is a man and can do it for himself.

He won’t though.

That is why he will not get my vote.

It doesn't work that way in politics. There's a medal of honor recipient doing the job right now telling the story of McCain's heroism and I hope he gets some deserved attention.

I hope you reconsider your options for the November election. There's a lot at stake.

WHERE WAS OBAMA WHEN MCCAIN WAS A POW?

Barack Hussein Obama - (from wikipedia)”...the family moved to Soetoro’s home country of Indonesia in 1967, where Obama attended local schools in Jakarta until he was ten years old. He then returned to Honolulu to live with his maternal grandparents while attending Punahou School from the fifth grade in 1971 until his graduation from high school in 1979.”

John Sidney McCain III - (from wikipedia)”During the Vietnam War, he nearly lost his life in the 1967 USS Forrestal fire. Later that year while on a bombing mission over North Vietnam, he was shot down, badly injured, and captured as a prisoner of war by the North Vietnamese. He was held from 1967 to 1973, experiencing episodes of torture and refusing an out-of-sequence early repatriation offer; his war wounds would leave him with lifelong physical limitations.”

QUITE A CONTRAST!
