I found the news media reaction to this cougar killing of a human to be very curious. The Santa Fe New Mexican said their story was from an AP feed. The other story seems to be from a writer on a site which is part of something associated with the New York Times, called Common Cause.
One question is whether the man was attacked, mauled and dragged to where his body was found or whether he had died and the cat than fed on his body.
The autopsy will determine that.
