[Loudoun] County's Plan to Check Immigration Status Under Scrutiny [from the ACLU]

The American Civil Liberties Union today asked the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office for documents related to its plans to check the immigration status of all people arrested in the county who are suspected of being in the United States illegally.

"We believe these kinds of policies are ill-advised in all circumstances, placing the federal responsibility to implement immigration laws in local hands and leading to hostile relations between local governments and their Latino communities," said Kent Willis, executive director of ACLU's chapter in Virginia.

"But where these policies do exist, those in charge must train police officers in non-discriminatory practices, they must put in place an explicit race-neutral protocol for determining when citizenship records will be sought, and they must have recordkeeping systems that compare treatment across racial lines," Willis said in a statement.

Willis, in his statement Friday, questioned whether Simpson has a protocol for how law enforcement officers will decide which suspects should be checked. "If he implements this plan without precise -- and probably costly -- procedures to protect against discrimination, then we are concerned that discrimination based on national origin will occur," he said.

Mr. Willis should spend a few nights in an apartment on Leesburg's east side, living with bedbugs.

If the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office and all those like it as well as schools etc. would tell the ACLU no one elected them to make law or bully Americans into submission of their “rules” or in short Take a Hike ACLU! People who ‘break the law’ by entering the country illegally are felons and will be treated according to those laws governing such illegal activity regardless of color or nationality. So get out of my way ACLU, I’ve got work to do.

One has to remember the nefarious origins of the ACLU. It was founded in the beginning to defend Communists in America. Is it any wonder that the modern day ACLU us so anti-American?

Why are they “defending the rights” of non-Americans? Have they so little to do?

Is the ACLU saying that the local law enforcement agency is not capable of enofcing laws other then local laws? Are they also saying that Latino communities favor illegal acts and are offended when the police enfocre the laws?

... related to its plans to check the immigration status of all people arrested in the county who are suspected of being in the United States illegally ...

If you are arrested in Loudoun County, Virginia and you can not produce a valid Virginia driver's license (which is only issued to those who are here legally), they will check your immigration status.

... without precise -- and probably costly -- procedures to protect against discrimination ...

The only procedures required are an extra sheet of paper with a single question:

Valid Virginia Driver's Licence?
Y or N

not too costly.
