A police spokesman says Oakland Raiders wide receiver Javon Walker was found unconscious on a Las Vegas street after apparently being the victim of a robbery.

Police spokesman Bill Cassell said in a statement that Walker was taken to a hospital with "significant injuries" after being found early Monday on a street off the Las Vegas Strip.

Cassell said Walker was in fair condition at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center.

A Raiders spokesman said the team was "in the process of gathering information" and had no further comment. Walker, 29, played the past two seasons for Denver after four seasons with Green Bay.

You flash enough cash, you will attract attention, even in Las Vegas.

Being reported in Denver as a fractured orbital. It’s not surprising to learn that Walker would find himself in this predicament.

Might have been one of Walker’s own crew...

When I was working in a particular... shall we say... “developing” country, we had a procedure for security. What you did was hire two of the biggest thugs you could find, and pay them well, to keep you safe. The problem was, when the thugs figured out you were leaving soon, they would do the math and figure out that they could rob you of the money and valuables that you were carrying and make more than you would be likely to pay them between that time and your departure.

People tried to get around this problem by promising to pay large bonuses at the time of departure, but the promise of future money was often not strong enough to keep your head attached to your neck.

Finally, somebody solved the problem. He quietly arranged his departure, and did not tell anybody that he was intending to leave. When the time of his flight arrived, he simply hailed a cab and went to the airport. His friends soon realized what happened, and went to his apartment to pack up his stuff to send along.

It got to the point where people would excuse themselves to go to the bathroom and simply disappear. About an hour before the daily London flight, people would be glancing around to see who was suddenly absent. At the end of a party, a coat and hat might be left hanging on the rack. After a few days, you would hear that so-and-so was back in New York...

A fractured orbital socket is a tough injury for an NFL Wide Receiver. Any impairment in vision could make it impossible for him to compete at the elite level. He just dropped 100 places on my Fantasy Draft Sheet.
