I saw an area of the Nantahala Forest these folks occupied once years ago. The damage was unimaginable. It is probably still scarred.

I shudder to think about it. My grandparents live just beyond that area and it is such a scenic area. One time, I would like to be able to spend some time on the ground, not just drive through the outskirts.
