A Conflict Of Interest
Human Events ^ | 6/16/08 | D. R. Tucker

I can’t believe there are black conservatives conflicted about Barack Obama.

If you are a legitimate conservative of any race, you cannot possibly vote for a left-wing whacko like Obama. If you care of the lives of the unborn and the protection of our country, then Obama is simply not a viable choice. If you believe that taxes should be low and judges should show restraint, how can you even entertain voting for Obama?

To a certain extent, I can understand why Colin Powell and J. C. Watts are considering supporting Obama. Watts is a moderate Republican who has long been mistakenly characterized as a conservative, and Powell is a liberal Republican. However, it’s hard to understand why the likes of Armstrong Williams are waffling.

Williams claims that “...history thrusts me to really seriously think about it. I can honestly say I have no idea who I'm going to pull that lever for in November. And to me, that's incredible."

Ether Williams loathes John McCain, or he is perhaps struggling with issues of racial loyalty. If the latter is indeed the case, then it is a profound shame; Williams could vote for Obama five hundred times, and it still wouldn’t reduce the hatred black liberals feel for him because of his track record.

Black conservatives who are “struggling with their vote” are endangering in risky behavior. Placing color over principle is evil, dangerous, perverse. One must vote values, not race.

America is engaging in risky behavior by having nominated these two terrible candidates for President. There is no good result in 2008. Only terrible and worse.

The profound ignorance of the American Electorate becomes more clear to me after each and every election.

Decades of creeping socialism have taught the people of this country (and every other developed nation) that the central government is there to fulfill their every need. They have not learned that every time the government steps in to fulfill a need they surrender a bit more freedom to that government.

The Democrats in the last forty years have in their efforts to gain and then keep their monopoly on the black vote have ingrained in the black voter a deep hatred of the white majority that has poisoned not only the black psyche but also the political landscape to the point that not only can a black conservative not be elected from a majority black district but it is doubtful that a black conservative candidate can not possibly be elected to any state wide (unless it was in a state with a relatively small black population) or national office in the country.

A conservative black in this country face unconscionable derision from the black political mainstream that he or she gives their opponent a huge handicap.

The idiocy is a worldwide phenomena. Robert Mugabe, Marion Barry, David Dinkins, Nelson Mandela... all of whom got power through a ballot box from clueless black masses - who then try to escape the hell wrought by the mismanagement by the black leadership.

“Black” trumps “prepared”.

Too bad many black folks (90+%) vote race. If white people did that, Obama would never have been elected to the Senate.

I guess ‘diversity’ is a one-way street.

Um, some around here claim there’s no difference between Obama and McCain anyway. Or that McCain actually is worse for the country because [fill in the blank].

If the above is true, then what’s the problem with black conservatives-—or anyone else, for that matter-—voting for Obama?

I don't see this as a race issue, because I have read some of the “supposed” died in the wool conservatives on this site question who question who they will vote for.

I guarantee one thing. Anyone who calls himself/herself a conservative and actually sits this election out or votes for Obama will regret it. Guaranteed.

If you really can’t believe there are black conservatives conflicted about Barack Obama, D.R. Tucker, then you probably haven’t met and lived among very many blacks. I was in “da Ahmy” in the 80’s and my wife’s family now lives mostly in Jersey, Brooklyn, Queens, and Long Island. I have no trouble at all believing that there are black conservatives planning to vote for black Obama.

Obama has used clever ploys to fool culturally-conservative blacks into leaning his way. One trick was to fraternize with black churches who espouse at least some family values and Christian doctrine, although Obama is a Marxist and once showed no interest in church.
