CHP has issued an Amber Alert for a Sunland boy, 5, and his 3-year-old brother. They say the siblings were abducted by their father after he shot the boys mother, his estranged wife, in front of them.

A woman was shot 13 times by the father of her two young boys today, and the man then took the children and fled, authorities said. The shooting occurred about 10:40 a.m. at a home in the 10000 block of McBroom Street, near the 210 Freeway just west of Sunland.
The woman, who was not identified, is in serious condition at a local hospital, police said. The father, Jose Luis Ortega, 27, and the woman got into an argument after she dropped the boys off at the house, said Los Angeles police Officer Julianne Sohn.
Ortega then pulled out a semi-automatic handgun and shot the woman 13 times, Sohn said. He left the home with the two children, possibly headed to Mexico, she said.
An Amber Alert has been issued for the two boys: Diego Fabian Ortega, 5, and Luis Gonzalo Ortega, 3, who were taken by their father in a black 1998 Ford Ranger pickup truck. The license plate number is 7Z19738.

Anyone want to add to this news that the guy is illegal, also? He is fleeing to Mexico, they think. Why flee there if you are legal in the USA??????
apparently so...she took the kids over to his house for Father’s Day, and argument ensued, and he busted out his piece.
Not to my knowledge. That is one that really bothers me. I have heard and seen on TV things like that overseas and it is almost always connected to meth.

In about a week or so we’ll hear he is in Mexico and the Mexican officals are giving us grief about returning him for trial.
Most sources, including the one linked, say the woman was shot “multiple times” but not how many. They must have changed the original headline.

Regardless of what has happened, these two precious children are caught in the middle and need Your protection. We pray that You would cover them with Your love and bring goodness to their lives. We pray for two parents who will be committed to loving them and teaching them to honor You. Knowing that humans fail, but You never do, we ask this in the Name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
No they don’t. It would take 2 mags from a .25, and no one who carries a .25 has 2 mags. I withdraw one theory. That is one tough woman.

Police are looking for Jose Luis Ortega, 27, who could be fleeing to Mexico in a 1998 black Ford Ranger pickup truck. The truck has California license plate No. 7Z19738, police said.
He was last seen wearing a white shirt and jeans.
“He told his wife that he was going to kill her family and that he was going to flee to Mexico,” Smith said.
She was in serious condition at an area hospital, Smith said.
