I think looking at just the headline it makes it sound like they are drilling in America. (Well - I guess they are - but most folks, me included see drilling in the “United States”.

RightWhale is pointing out that it IS in Cuban waters. And Cuba can do whatever the heck it wants there. However, it does bring up the good point that why have China drill “off our coast” and not us? Not sure which direction current flow is there, but I imagine 60 miles isn’t that far if a big oil spill gets out of control.

And something tells me that a U.S. company working under U.S. EPA and OSHA rules is going to have less impact and risk than a Chinease rig overseen by Cubans.

Heard that Brazil Oil got the drill contract rather than China Oil. Is that so?

The irony of this situation is that the Democrats (and some Republicans like FL Sen Martinez) don’t want US companies drilling closer than 200 miles from the Florida coast.
