Researchers Fail to Reveal Full Drug Pay [Sen. Grassley Discovered Conflict of Interest]
New York Times ^ | 06/08/08 | GARDINER HARRIS and BENEDICT CAREY

A world-renowned Harvard child psychiatrist whose work has helped fuel an explosion in the use of powerful antipsychotic medicines in children earned at least $1.6 million in consulting fees from drug makers from 2000 to 2007 but for years did not report much of this income to university officials, according to information given Congressional investigators.

Fascinating. Good for Senator Grassley for this investigation, which will no doubt protect many children from being overdiagnosed or -medicated.

"“It’s really been an honor system thing,” said Dr. Robert Alpern, dean of Yale School of Medicine. “If somebody tells us that a pharmaceutical company pays them $80,000 a year, I don’t even know how to check on that.”

O.....M.....G.....!

Dear gracious and merciful God in heaven please, please tell me that the Dean of the Yale School of Medicine is NOT...that...stupid.....(!!!)

HOW ABOUT JUST ASK HIM FOR HIS TAX RETURNS, YOU IDIOT MORON????

How was there any offense?

I do hate how many parents can be fooled by someone in a lab coat with top creds who is possibly not operating in their child’s best interests. Not that I think there is never a situation where neurological medications are needed.

Would love to see ‘other’ researchers get reviewed like this.
‘Drug induced’ nanny state ping.

This one’s easy: simply subject pharmaco-medical researchers to the same degree of scrutiny as climate researchers who question global warming...

I knew it!! The shrinks were on the take the whole time. And these are just the ones that got caught...no clue how many got away with it.

My kids got one drug when they were growing up, and that was Adrenaline, and it was self-generated after being whacked (yes, within the law, you guys at DPS).

That was all they needed. They NEVER saw a shrink and we would have NEVER believed them anyway...and I guess we were right, since they are on the take (or at least their leaders are...which is just as bad, as they set the rules).

So I do feel sorry for the soccer moms out there who actually believe these clowns...too bad they didn’t listen to your grandparents a bit when you had the chance...but then they knew EVERYTHING.

I think we are still in the dark ages where psychiatric medicine is concerned. Some time in the future, people are going to look back and wonder how we could have been giving the medicines we did, without really knowing how they worked.

My daughter had a problem with depression when she was a teen. She also had trouble sleeping, due to anxiety. One doctor diagnosed her as bipolar. The medicine they gave her made her far worse than she had ever been before. Zyprexa made her absolutely nuts. I am sure it was that drug, because she was on it, then taken off and then put back on. She only had psychotic episodes when on Zyprexa. It was scary.

I looked into it and was sure she she was not bipolar. She never had a manic phase at all, just trouble sleeping. Insomnia does not equal mania. We took her off the drugs, but it took years to get that diagnosis off her chart.

Because of the big profits in drugs there will be all kinds of bribes, grants, etc. to help the pushers with their products. Not a whole lot of difference with the drugs coming across the southern border. Good for Grassley.

IMHO, Psychiatry is not any more capable of helping most people than a Jewish Grandmother. Chicken soup has a lot more benefits to offer!

Psychiatry may have some answers, but when they diagnose one thing as a "disorder" (Homosexuality), and then say "it's perfectly normal activity! No problems here! Move on!"... it's hard to see their worth.

Most people can be perfectly happy without the chemical complications that come with being an experiment. Nobody really knows how each person's personal chemistry works! They just take somebody else's word, and then give you another nightmare!

The biggest problem in most people's lives, is that God is second! Worry, guilt, and all the negatives that come into our lives, are often the result of our own selfishness and sinfullness.

BTW, I can personally attest to this as fact!
