JERUSALEM — Israel will attack Iran if it doesn't abandon its nuclear program, a Cabinet minister hoping to replace embattled Prime Minister Ehud Olmert was quoted Friday as saying.
Transportation Minister Shaul Mofaz also said Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad "will disappear before Israel does," the Yediot Ahronot daily reported. Ahmadinejad has called repeatedly for Israel's destruction.
Mofaz's spokeswoman did not immediately return a call seeking comment on the remarks, which were much more explicit than anything Olmert himself has said. Olmert has gone no further than hinting that Israel was prepared to use force against Iranian nuclear facilities, saying only Tuesday that "the Iranian threat must be stopped by all means. "

I love how our government is complicit in giving nuclear technology to a terrorist country like North Korea (thanks Clinton and Allbright). While we sit and postulate, Israel has the cajones to do something about a terrorist country with nuclear weapon aspirations as they did to Syria.
Before or after the Nov election? Certainly before Osbama becomes President.

Israel has absolutely NO reason to put any faith in Arab human kindness — IF that exists at all.
Iran has stated clearly that they desire war. Nobody can blame Israel if they take them at their word.

Actually, I believe this has been the plan all along.
Dubya will “take care of Iran” ... AFTER the election is concluded and before the inauguration.
It may come in the form of “an Israeli attack” (i.e., using Israeli planes and pilots), but with the _support_ of the United States military, where support is required by the Israelis to promulgate their actions (i.e., refueling, etc.).
Please forgive my lack of knowledge, but perhaps this is more “doable” than if the USA were to lead the attack. I’m speaking in terms of how much consent the president needs from the Congress to “help out” Israel, vis-a-vis the consent the president would need politically (or be required to law to have) before the “United States” per se went on the offensive against Iran. Perhaps someone else will step up and clarify the differences, if there are any.
To have done this BEFORE the election would have probably thrown it to Obama. But just afterward - too late to change the results, and probably too late for the ‘rats to take any real action to impeach Mr. Bush.
I also believe that Mr. McCain may have already been advised of any action the Bush administration will take, if it takes any at all. And that whatever is in the works will be done with McCain’s approval.
