the experience of being an 8th grader in a room full of other 8th graders discussing Chaucer has to have been one of the stupidest wastes of time in my life

It led me to Kipling. And 14-16th century organized warfare studies. I can live with middle-english bards, if that leads to stuff like that.

Damn little in the world doesn't lead to something that is ACTUALLY interesting.

PIKES OUT! SQUARE OFF! ;)

When do they start teaching Newspeak as a double plus good?

War is Peace
Freedom is Slavery
Ignorance is Strength

DARK AGES II coming to a country near you....

Cool. I have an up-to-date library, can teach peasants to read, arm them, and know how the swiss finally ended up. History is on my side. Just a shorter cycle this time.

“Children should no longer be taught traditional subjects at school because they are “middle-class” creations”

Marx thought everything was a “middle class creation” too. That’s why he wanted a dictatorship of the proletariat, to replace the bourgeouis society. I assume this learned prof is a Marxist, too.

Ancient Greek model for education:

“NOUS IGIIS, EN SOMATI IGII” -healthy mind in a healthy body.

Physical exercise.
Science.
Philosophy (includes history)
Art.

We have already dropped Art, and most of the Physical exercise (other than ridiculous team “sports”)
No one complained.

Now Science and Philosophy are going fast/

Do something will you?

“DARK AGES II coming to a country near you....”

You say that, but kids coming out of the Dark Ages generally knew a trade and could tend for themselves in the world. There wasn’t a sense of entitlement, even in a world of titles.

Pray tell, what can any loser raised with that kind of mentality accomplish in life outside of working fastfood and holding a hand out for a government check?

“OK, I’ll ask. Who’s going to develop the alternative energy if there are no scientists?”

They don’t want alternative energy. They want no energy and the associated crises that will come with it.

English class needs to be about developing excellent reading comprehension ...

And what, pray tell, will you read to teach those skills? Dr. Seuss? The Encyclopedia Britannica?

You read the best that has been written in order to learn to understand the best that has been written. That will not be important to everyone. Your lowest-level students don't need Chaucer. Your college-bound kids desperately need to read it (and see the parallels between indulgences and carbon-credits, the Pardoner and Al Gore). But if a kid doesn't see the utility of the reading, that's fine. Education isn't about utility (that's called "job training"). If a kid is only interested in the "useful" information, then let him take those classes... there's room for all intellectual skill levels in our economy...

He does have a Noble Prize you know.

I think the Right Reverence of the Church of Gaia Algore more properly has an Ignoble Priz.

I was introduced to Shakespeare in the 9th grade in a Catholic High School in Detroit. I also had several Shakespeare courses in college. I think it’s really cool, even at the advanced age of 65, to be able to interject a quote from the Bard into bar conversations.

England -— it was nice knowing ya.

The English were correct in criticizing Professor White and the Government for listening to him. The guy is a loon.

In a lot of ways, this has already been accomplished without a single peep from American parents. How many people believe that THEIR school is OK, so don’t tell them different?

Now, the left is being more honest about their desires for the disinheritance of their nation’s children. It is already here in America. It will continue to be replaced with false science, homosexualization of young children and indoctrination into socialism. The attempt to stop those who try to teach a full curriculum and pass on their faith to their children will continue because NO child is to be left out of the indoctrination of the left.

Complete servitude to the enriched and more holy left will be guaranteed by the continued enslavement of the children of the Western Civilization.

Don't teach science, but push for alternative energy.......

I now understand why the public fails to realize that fossil fuels are economically more attractive than alternative energy. Pellosi and Boxer demand with ease that fossil fuels be replaced with alternatives while ignoring all unintended consequences and declaring all oil companies and their CEOs evil. It is harder and maybe impossible to actually execute the left's "energy plan". The public and congress cannot recognize the stupidity because they were never taught science.

Hey England, just change the names from Schools to Indoctrination Centers and do what you will. The people are tired of you pissing on their leg and telling them it’s raining.

Pupils would no longer study history, geography and science but learn skills such as energy- saving and civic responsibility through projects and themes.

Words fail me..
