Democrats: Outed on Oil
Human Events ^ | June 4, 2008 | Wendy Schibener

Democrats are obsessed with the idea of laying the blame of record high gasoline prices on someone – George Bush, OPEC or anyone who doesn’t ride a bicycle to work. But maybe Dems should look in a mirror. The Democrats voted four times in the past year against money-saving, domestic oil production plans – plans that lower the price at the pump and return billions of dollars to the pockets of Americans.

In a letter to President Bush on May 12th, Democratic leaders said, “unfortunately, despite recent entreaties by you and Vice President Cheney, OPEC has voted three times in the last year against raising production, meaning rising gas prices continue to sap a greater portion of Americans’ paychecks.”

Democrats do not mention the past four Democratic votes against increased domestic oil production in US. Dating back to June 2007, Democrats consistently vote down domestic oil production in favor of foreign dependence.

The Democrats have relied entirely on conservation, which means, in essence, “do without.”

The dirty little secret is that liberals LIKE high gas prices. High prices mean fewer SUVs and exurbs and fewer CO2 omissions - all things liberals hate (because they represent freedom).

But they seldom will come out and be honest and say that.

It is too late for blame. We either get this under control or we will see the US economy brought to its knees.

Do George Clooney or Julia Roberts own an SUV?

Betcha they do.

And fly private jet.

Nothing wrong with conservation. I’m glad that word seems to be making a comeback. Conserve American domestic oil field/exploration/drilling jobs. Conserve American energy independence. Drill ANWR and Gitmo and build a moat around the DC beltway so they can’t get in or out!

Conservation is for the little people.

It is too late for blame.

I don't think so. The Dems need to be held responsible (along with some turn-coat Republicans) for blocking every attempt to increase domestic oil production. When the Dems took office, gas was around $2.50/gal. Now it's closer to $4/gal. The GOP needs to educate the public as to how the Dems have blocked drilling efforts in ANWR, OCS, oil shale and tar sands, and continued the red tape that sees a permit to build a refinery or power plant take 8+ years. It's time for the GOP to take off the kidd gloves and tell the public that the Dems and the tree huggers are killing this country.

It isn’t the Dems either, even though they promised they would do something about it if they were elected in 2006.

Sen. Pete Domenici (R-NM) and Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky) sponsored the most recent domestic energy proposal in Senate. The Senators’ plan, titled “The American Energy Production Act” (S.2958), projects a production of 24 billion barrels of oil domestically as well as opens up the potential of oil shale and coal-to-liquid technology.

~~snip~~

The clean coal-derived section of the Domenici-McConnell plan mandates the production of 6 billion gallons of coal-derived fuels by 2022. The United States is one of the leading countries in coal reserves. This plan provides a 3.75 percent reduction in oil imports by that same year.

Democrats rejected the Domenici-McConnell plan by a 42-56 vote on May 13th.

absolutely. Good Housekeeping had an article on how female celebs contribute to the eco craze. Jennifer Anniston takes a 3 minute shower where she brushes her teeth.

Oh, please! Jennifer gets her hair washed at a salon, her legs and underarms waxed at another salon, her car washed at a detail shop, her clothes dry cleaned, and she’s proud of a 3 minute shower?

at least she showers! Wonder how much toilet paper she deems acceptable? These are the pressing celebrity questions we need answered!

Yesterday I was told by a financial planner, who came to our office for a brown bag seminar, that oil is bought and sold in dollars. The weaker the dollar the higher the price of oil. Any additional upward movement in the price of oil comes from the speculators. So if the dollar keeps losing value, oil prices will rise. The way out is if the Fed raises interest rates.

“Wonder how much toilet paper she deems acceptable? These are the pressing celebrity questions we need answered!”

You got it, girl! She and Sheryl Crowe and all the other celebs cannot wash away their carbon footprints with their “sacrifices” of one piece of toilet paper or 3 minute showers.

I do blame Bush for not actively pushing for nuclear power, drilling in ANWR and off the Florida Coast. If the GOP would have done that, we could take the offensive on this issue and drill the left.

I think it's clear that if the GOP by some miracle is in charge, prices will rise.

If the Democrats are in charge, they will ration. Bet on it.

You can have all the gas you want, at the market price, or you can have lower prices and rationing.

Those are the choices.

“It is too late for blame. “

Seems like it’s always too late for blame whenever the Dem’s vote hurts the public, I wonder if it isn’t too late to vote these people out of office.

Drill , PUMP , and stop sending money to OPEC!

DO IT NOW!

The Democrats have relied entirely on conservation, which means, in essence, “do without.”

What they mean specifically by "do without" is that you and I should do without. The democRAT elites, or the limousine liberals as they're called, will never "do without". They will continue to drive or ride in their chauffer-driven large SUV, and they will continue to keep their thermostats at 72 degrees.
