As soon as I saw the Ewoks in "Return of the Jedi", I knew they were meant to represent something evil but that the movie makers considered good.
Many years later, Lucas mentioned they were meant to represent the Viet Cong.

They were originally supposed to be Wookies and the whole fight taking place on Kashyyyk. It was supposed to be a fight between technologically backwards Wookies vs Imperial might.
His kids thought something more like a teddybear would appeal to them. Hence those stupid ass Ewoks.
THX1138 was Lucas' only "real" film. One he now seems bent on recreating by joining forces with those who want to push the buttons and prescribe the drugs to a highly controlled populace.
