A new Survey USA poll in Michigan gives strong support to John McCain adding Mitt Romney to the ticket if his major aim is to win Michigan.

McCain leads Obama 41%-37% head-to-head. But when Romney is added to the ticket, McCain-Romney defeat every possible Democratic ticket surveyed: (see graphic)

Michigan is a "must-win" state for Democrats. If McCain could pick it off, he would be well on his way to victory.

What gives you the right to write off MI as a lost cause?
The first step in improving a problem is believing something can be done.

Romney keeps social conservatives home while Huckabee mobilizes them. Without and enthused social conservative wing of the party, it is going to be very hard for McCain win.

Huckabee might pad the popular vote numbers, but he won’t win McCain any states he wouldn’t have otherwise won.

Hence the quotes around youth. Romney is 61, but he looks good for his age, and is a lot younger than McCain.

I wish it were Fred T., but Fred’s not interested in VP, McCain probably wouldn’t offer it to him, and Fred doesn’t do much electorally either.

What did Huck say at the NRA convention? I must have missed that.

Virginia is definitely in play. Huckabee helps there.

But, there is more than just the Presidency to worry about. Most of the seats Republicans are losing are in the south and to socially-conservative Democrats. Putting Huckabee on the ticket could save many of those seats. Romney on the ticket may assure several more loses in southern congressional races.

I just don’t care for Huckabee. He’s not a conservative, he’s simply a pro-life liberal who supports gun rights. However, simpleton types love him even if he’s a socialist because he smiles and says “Jesus” a lot.

What gives you the right to pretend to read minds? I said no
such thing.

McCain can win MI without Romney... without pandering like
Edwards.

Mr. Romney is only 61 and has many, many, many years ahead of him (God willing). He has the most experience (public and private sectors) of a candidate that I have ever seen. Mr. Romney would definitely deliver Michigan and I think he could help my state of Ohio as well. Mr. McCain would be very wise to pick Mr. Romney as his VP and let him focus on the economy. No better VP pick.

They are awesome numbers, Mr. Bates. I believe that Mr. Romney would be of some help to my state of Ohio as well.

The thing that’s hard to believe is that wasn’t FDR 61 when he died of an illness?

FDR was 63 when he passed away (I had to check Wickipedia). Indeed. Today 61 is young. That’s how far the medical system has come. Thank God.
