Earlier, the Republican National Committee pounced on Obama's improbable statement that an uncle had served in the unit that liberated Auschwitz.
In fact, campaign spokesman Bill Burton says, his great uncle was a member of the 89th Infantry Division that liberated the Ohrduf camp, part of Buchenwald and, according to the Holocaust Museum, the first concentration camp liberated by U.S. troops.
The soldier in question, Burton said, is Obama's grandmother's brother, who's still alive.
UPDATE: "Senator Obamas family is proud of the service of his grandfather and uncles in World War II especially the fact that his great uncle was a part of liberating one of the concentration camps at Buchenwald. Yesterday he mistakenly referred to Auschwitz instead of Buchenwald in telling of his personal experience of a soldier in his family who served heroically," Burton says.

Still waiting to hear if the candidate himself registered for Selective Service as he was required to do (being a male born after 12/31/59) Well?

Assuming that our hero is telling the truth this time, this is the kind of mistake that is made by a lightweight. As in not ready for prime time. God help us all if this nimrod actually manages to bumble his way into the White House.

Just a typical white person, so who cares?
Whites did the Tuskeegee experiments, which is worse than Hitler!

Yesterday he mistakenly referred to Auschwitz instead of Buchenwald in telling of his personal experience of a soldier in his family who served heroically," Burton says. His personal experience? Having a distant relationship with someone is a personal experience? That would be like my personal experience of having moonshiners in my family history. It amounts to nothing.

All you need is his SS# and DoB and you can look it up....I wonder if those data are public.

Unless you embellished it and said your uncle (really your great uncle) spent 6 months in the pokey (the attic in Obama’s story) for selling moonshine in South America (where it wasn’t illegal (Auschwitz).
