"She had been spending more than 75 percent of her income on rent".
Ahem, could she be living in the wrong place?

I'm amazed why any one would want to stay in California. It used to be the land of dreams. High taxes, high costs and incomes that are below national average have made life extremely difficult there.

"She had been spending more than 75 percent of her income on rent". It's a great investment if next year you could find some chump willing to pay 85% of his income for it.
Unfortunately for her, the music stopped in this little game of musical chairs at 75%.

Mrs Harvey, a mother of three adult children, said her situation had upset her 19-year-old daughter, who moved in with friends to avoid becoming homeless.Of course, the obvious question - why her adult children are unwilling to take her in or why she's unwilling to move in with her children - is not asked.

Parking discrimination. People should not be denied help solely based upon their gender. What a bunch of sexists.

“Mrs Harvey, a mother of three adult children, said her situation had upset her 19-year-old daughter...”
Three adult chillen, hmmm.
Anyway, now she doesn’t have to pay rent, so she should be able to save some money and MOVE to a more affordable area.

Harvey, who earns eight dollars an hour and also collects social security payments There are parts of this country where Ms. Harvey could support herself and have a roof over her head for this amount. It might be a modest studio apartment, but still it would have to be better than camping in her Honda every night.

Barbara Harvey, who worked as a loan processor, told CNN she had little choice but to live in her car after losing both her job and her apartment. She had been spending more than 75 percent of her income on rent.
75%? MOVE SOMEWHERE ELSE. Dear God!

Here in the grand south, she could BUY and afford it at that rate.
Small house, 60k. Ten year loan for first house in georgia is exceptionally low, she could come out paying less than 400 a month.

Used to be that a big Buick was considered ample for a small family, but now with the cost of SUVs getting reasonable and tiny cars in demand, the SUV is a viable residential alternative. Poke a hole in the side for the stovepipe and you are ready to go.

Assuming that a “loan processor” makes,say,40K/yr this woman was *not* meant to be living in a city that features
a median house price in seven figures. There have got to be areas nearby where such a salary could get you a half decent apartment and still allow you to buy food.
To: blam
Ahem, could she be living in the wrong place? My thoughts exactly. I feel bad for the woman, but she still has a car so she could drive to some other, more affordable, city to live.

I don’t believe a word of it. I just don’t believe people are so incredibly stupid that they’d stay in an area where they can’t afford to live. And spending 75% of one’s income on rent? That’s insane.

The last few months around the DC area, the commuters have been spending large sums of money on fuel. It is getting harder to find cheap rent due to illegals. The world is changing quickly.
