That’s “Open Space Rangers”, not “Space Rangers”.
Gotta say, from personal experience talking with some of them, they are pretty spacey.
Most of the present generation of AgencyPersons in agencies dealing with critters have come from education systems where they believe Dr. Paul Beier’s line about being comfortable with animals eating us.
Yeah, such beliefs were once considered sociopathic. That was then, this is now, and the sociopaths are in uniform and armed.
That’s why I call them the “Armed and Rangerous”.
“We all see and hear them lately - last summer about 35 pets went missing in one month. Parks & Wildlife just blows it off... here in TX there is no bag limit on panthers: they just ask that you call in your sighting/kill location.”
Do what cat hunters have done since man was able to hunt cats instead of being hunted by the cats - get a goat, stake it out in a proper area with no down range hazards, wait and shoot.
I think a night or two watching the goat would work well. Just watching my livestock, ya know.
Asking the usual officer about wildlife is a waste of time. ASking one of them to deal with a predator is also fruitless. Remember, when seconds count, a cop is only minutes away.
Know guns, know peace. No guns, no peace.

My 8 year old nephew goes to that school. They’ve had mountain goats wander into their garage before, but nothing like this. Scary.

It was about three times big as a bobcat, with long black hair tufting off the ears and long tail.
She said the muscle definition was particularly noteworthy.
I’ve seen asian cats with this description, still looking.

You’re right - I humbly apologize for my gross understatement :)
I’d say.. red-pepper spray in a holstered system, at 16% concentration might do the trick.
But — if for some reason I HAD to wander through some horrible crime-laden section of a town where I felt I had to carry any weapon for my personal safety.. would I go there for a picnic or to “commune with nature”? No.
So why would I go to any park or place where I know dangerous non-human-fearing predators have been released? — (to be clear, I am still talking about animals.)
Hippy-tree-huggers are drawn to “open spaces” like they are the Meccas of Gaia. When one gets munched on, it’ll be Bush’s fault. It’s just his destiny, right? *nod*
The Open Space Rangers can sleep well at night knowing this.
The nuisance bears in Colorado have been ending up on the Routt-Moffat county line, south of Hayden. If I had to wager, I’d expect this lion to end up in Rio Blanco. That area is thick with cats and this one wouldn’t get a second chance if it walked into Meeker or Rangely. DOW has no more problem with the cat and gets to write a ticket and collect a few hundred dollar fine. Problem solved.

People living there suffer from Boulder Dementia Syndrome, or BDS. BDS causes their beady little eyes to see visions of Eden. Then BDS causes them to believe that man and lion can “just get along”.

The DOW has released many bears that return in three days. It is a standing joke that they must play this game to keep the newbie city liberals happy.
We miss the old days when sheep herders, ranchers, and cowboys took care of the predators the first time.

Just because you don't hear about it doesn't mean it isn't happening. DOW knows darn well the problem will be solved; they just don't have the b@lls to do it themselves.

Yup - it’s called “shoot, shovel, and shut up”. Y’all would be amazed what some of these guys will tell you once they figure out that you’re not some fuzzy-brained big city do-gooder. BTW, I was raised on a farm; I KNOW where chicken comes from, and involves something that most city folks have never seen. It’s called k-i-l-l-i-n-g.
I have talked to a silly neighbor who thinks that they are just fine being around here. I tried to explain to her these things hunt and kill.........and sometimes humans are their prey. Being nice to them won't help her if she meets one.

there used to be a colony of them
we had a big deer lease outside of Burnet on Lake Buchanan in the late 70s and there were cats there
