Former New York City Mayor Edward Koch, one of the countrys most prominent Democrats, says he may cross over and back Republican Sen. John McCain for president.
In an exclusive Newsmax interview, Koch says McCain has no equal when it comes to opposing Islamic terrorism. Though Koch says he disagrees with most of McCains positions on domestic issues, he could support him because of his strong national security credentials.
Koch carries significant weight with many Jewish Democrats in New York and across the country. He also has a history of playing the maverick and crossing party lines.
He has backed several New York Republicans, including Rudy Giuliani and Michael Bloomberg for New York City mayor, Al D'Amato for the U.S. Senate, and George Pataki for New York governor. In 2004 he endorsed his first Republican for president, George W. Bush. Koch actively campaigned in several states, including Florida and Ohio.
Bush won both states.
Koch, a regular Newsmax pundit, also says in his interview that he still endorses Sen. Hillary Clinton for the White House and believes she should stay in the race. He says he is bothered by Sen. Barack Obamas relationships with the Rev. Jeremiah Wright and terrorist bomber William Ayers, and agrees with McCain that a pre-emptive strike against Iran may be necessary.

Is Ed Koch finally returning to his senses after being a Hillary-bot for the last couple of years? One can only hope...
As any Jew who cares about his fellow Jews should. But most won’t.
Ed Koch clearly not an Obama fan. He also was reasonable in 2004. I can respect a guy that knows the important issues of the day.
I’m all aquiver.
A liberal democrat who comes to his senses occasionally (especially if Israel is involved), supporting a moderate Democrat.
Us rock-ribbed conservatives should be excited, I guess.
I respect this guy.
Koch never endorsed Reagan, tho the Dems are convinced he did everything in his power to swing votes in his direction. He’s quite the character. At least he has his priorities straight ... the most liberal/progressive domestic programs won’t mean a thing if we’re all blown to smithereens.
Koch’s “liberalism with sanity” is better than the far leftism most Dems push. He is one Demo I who would not have scared me if he had become president. But on the down side, he did not do what Giuliani did to clean up crime in NY.
He'll piss you off repeatedly with his liberalism, but he's got your back covered when anyone screws with the US.
Ed Koch has always been a liberal, and I think will always remain one. But he is that rarity of rarities these days, an honest liberal who loves his country.
There are a few others, but it’s a vanishing breed. (I wouldn’t count Senator Lieberman, who occasionally speaks out honestly but then promptly votes the other way, as he did in the clinton impeachment trial.)
Awesome video:
The same kind of terrorists who support Obama did this:

Never apologize for them.
Never appease them.
Never forget.
He loses me here. Untimely statement. Wayyyyyyyyyy too much recent progress in Iraq to be talking trash like this. The former mayor must getting all his Iraq news from MSNBC.
Let’s hope and pray that Sharpton/Jackson respond and fight breaks out in NY Dems.
If Blacks switch to Republicans in Congressional elections as revenge, you can kiss Chucky and the Fat Guy good bye.
Koch said that he was glad that Carter lost because Cyrus Vance later told him that Carter would have sold out Israel if he won a second term.
Mavericks stick together. Who knew?
Note that Koch DOESN’T have to cross party lines to vote for McCain.
Unfortunately, it seems that most liberal American Jews belong to “Self Hating Jews For Obama.”
Ed Koch also supported Bush 2004. Koch and Lieberman are the last old school FDR/Truman Jewish Democrats. Liberals... but with a spine.
No need to cross over Ed, he has been on your side of the aisle for years.
I remember in 2004 Mr. Koch saying that he would be supporting President Bush for re-election, and then would be supporting Hillary for 2008. I guess the support was just for her. Interesting.
This is not a surprise. I think Ed Koch is to the right of former Republican mayor Julie Annie.
LOL! Two threads in one day Sgt!
Love that image and message. I have a feeling we’re going to be seeing that a lot more in the coming months!
I’ll never understand why liberal Jews are so blindly supportive of blacks and their causes, however questionable, when, for the greater part, the blacks hate their guts.
There’s no doubt about that (throwing Israel under the bus). Jimmuh’s still doing it. And Barack will do it as well, only faster and with heightened glee!
Former New York City Mayor Edward Koch, one of the countrys most prominent Democrats
is really silly wishful thinking. Koch hasn't been prominent in a decade. Not even in New York City.
He's about as relevant as Mario Cuomo.

No way is Koch voting for Obama— Dittos for many Jews. Obama is an arrogant disrespectful punk, woe on us if we elect him. His remarks last week about McCain and Bush show how low this brash punk is
Ping
I see Mayor Ed Koch as a Jewish Vice President Hubert Humphrey, and that isn’t meant as an insult.
Edward Koch has always combined a great love for our country and damned great common sense! As for Obama, he's a piker, a media pet that doesn't know how to handle any real life criticism. Take off the kid gloves and he almost holds his breath and turns blue. And that precious hot house media plant now has Hillary Clinton as his Democratic primary bete noir. Who says there's never any justice in this life?:D
Dennisw, you can't buy entertainment like this, and Orville Redenbacher stock should be rising sharply. Obama is obviously the annointed, well funded, and packaged one, but Hillary is decended from Rod Weiller out of Pitty Bull. With any luck, they will tear the Democratic Party limb from limb, culminating in the Democratic National Party blood bath Convention a few months from now.
Enjoy the show, I doubt we'll ever see anything so exposing what the Democratic Party now stands for again.
But he’s such a small-minded, pompous little monkey-boy, that he might help McCain more by endorsing Obama.
