Why I love Harry Reid (Is Barf Alert needed?)
World Net Daily ^ | May 19, 2008 | Ellen Ratner

Posted on 05/19/2008 11:39:08 AM PDT by PROCON

This week several journalists and bloggers had breakfast with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. Reid just published a book, "The Good Fight: Hard Lessons from Searchlight to Washington." It is a very honest book and very direct, not the usual political fare from Washington politicians. There are journalists from both the right and left who do not think he is an effective majority leader, but I beg to differ. He is very effective precisely because he flies under the radar as soft spoken but tough.

There are pundits who think that if Sen. Clinton does not win the Democratic nomination she will come back and claim the majority leader position. Sen. Reid is not about to be displaced, and when asked about his tenure he said he has the full support of the senators and added, "keep in mind also that a senator coming back that's running for president is not very unique around here. John Kerry ran, he's back; Chris Dodd ran and he's back; Joe Biden ran, he's back … Clinton has a lot of fine committee assignments. She has plenty to do." Spoken like a very wily leader who is not going anywhere.

Hillary Clinton is the JUNIOR Senator from NY. Chuck Schumer will definitely have something to say abour her leap-frogging him to grab power.

If it’s written by Ratner, a barf alert is a necessity.

“keep in mind also that a senator coming back that’s running for president is not very unique around here. John Kerry ran, he’s back; Chris Dodd ran and he’s back; Joe Biden ran, he’s back”

That would be because it is very uncommon for a Congressman to be elected to the White House.

And currently Congress has even lower popularity ratings than President Bush. Of course, one Senator WILL be our next president as the THREE remaining figures ALL come from the low rated Congress.

Brent Bozell, October 2006 "Associated Press reporters John Solomon and Kathleen Hennessy reported that Reid scored a windfall of $700,000, turning a $400,000 real-estate investment in Las Vegas in 1998 to a $1.1 million land deal in 2004 -- even though he apparently had sold the property to a casino lobbyist buddy in 2001. He did not report the facts on his Senate financial disclosure forms -- while he served on the Senate Ethics Committee.

When the AP called Reid for comment, he hung up on them. You would think that an aggressive, fair and balanced media would have been incensed and activated. But we don't have a fair and balanced national media.

It should be said that major newspaper editorial pages were not impressed with Reid's defense. The Washington Post suggested that "Mr. Reid's professions of transparency and full disclosure are transparently wrong."

But the network distaste for saying anything critical of the Democratic leader was obvious. ABC aired nothing. CBS aired nothing. NBC's Chip Reid offered a few words on "Nightly News" -- after the latest full story on "Foley fallout." There was no "Harry fallout."

Here is my snide comment of the day: As a Mormon in good standing, Harry Reid is expected to tithe a minimum of 10 percent of everything he earns or is givento the LDS church. Does this mean he also tithes his ill-gotten gains?
