Battling the abortion mentality on campus

Planned Parenthood and other promoters of abortion are on or near college campuses preaching their message of death. But a student pro-life group is moving to counter that.

In response to the campus prominence of Planned Parenthood, Students for Life of America is hiring field agents who will have the responsibility of forming chapters on campuses in their region. The organization will help to make sure counseling and services are available to women that will convince them to have their babies.

"We send field agents out every semester to college campuses identifying pro-life students and helping [those students] start pro-life groups on their campuses," says executive director Kristan Hawkins. She adds that currently the only message available on many campuses provides one approach – abortion.

"There are Planned Parenthood groups. There are Feminist Majority Network groups. There are National Organization for Women groups," lists Hawkins. "Many of the professors are liberal [and] pro-abortion .... It's really seen as a place where the pro-abortion movement has its strength and has its power," she points out. Many campuses even offer abortion clinics, she adds.

Hawkins highlights the need to train pro-life leaders. "We need to get them the education, we need to get them the facts, and we need to teach them how to win," she continues.

She also states that it is important to train these pro-life leaders so that when Roe v. Wade is "overturned ... they can start fighting in their states to permanently make abortion permanently illegal."

Students for Life of America plans to not only set up chapters, but also provide means for mothers who want to have their babies to support themselves and stay in school.

Colleges are critical to the pro-life fight.

These people should put their efforts into cooperating with crisis pregnancy centers (Carenet Pregnancy Centers - as the case may be). My wife has been involved with our local one (college town) since its inception over 15 years ago. They do a wonderful work in a loving and non-confrontational way.

Most of the groups that I am aware with work very closely with crisis pregnancy centers.
