Good for the 3rd MAW.
In the 1st MAW, we had a few guys - stateside - who were the last of the enlisted pilots still flying who had earned their combat wings at Guadalcanal.
For you younger Marines who don’t know, Marines had enlisted pilots - not just officers - who provided us with close air support back in 1943.
They flew out of Henderson Field at Guadalcanal after we chased the Japanese Marines out.
I have some artwork - not photos but art (black and white and color sketches
from Henderson Field, drawn by Marines) - that I’ll post here one day at the appropriate time.
