Just a FYI, this quake was as far from a New or Full moon as it is possible to get, for the “full moons cause earthquakes” crowd.

First of all, thanks for your concerns, guys. I am a Chinese in Shanghai, when the BIG ONE quake happened from my hometown nearly 100 kilometres on 2008.5.12 14:28pm, I was just working in company, when the bad news propep up on my screen, I was shaken! That’s was very big, many provinces even Shanghai was slightly affected. I anxiously dialed my Dad and mom’s phone, but jammed...So, the only thing I could do was just refreshing the headlines continuously...

Nearly 2000 China Moblile signal transfer stations in Sichuan were collapsed, which caused the disruption of communication nearly 6 hours.

Bei Chuan, a small town neigbouring the epicenter reported nearly 5000 casualties later. I started to worry my parents more.

Luckily, I finally hearded my dad’s voice from the phone, “The government is evacuating us, no one is allowed to stay in towns, everyone must go upward to hills, your mom was a litte scared, and the famous ancient tower built in Ming Dynasty was crashed, some inferior quality buildings collapsed, either. Though, our home became a mess, but, don’t worry for us, we’re still ok.” It’s really a relief to me.

From what I get in media, here is the situation:
1.Our Prime Minister Wen Jiabao flew to disaster zone after the BIG ONE happen 1 hour later, and now commanding all aid resources in the frontier! He’s been commanding rescue work from 17:00pm(presently 3:20am in China), I’m proud of him.

2.For the epicenter is mountainous zone, and is raining heavily, bridges broken, all roads destoyed by boulders, PLA aiding troops still cannot reach Wen Chuan town. Helicopters cannot reach there in heavy rains, strong winds and darknight. Presently, PLA troops are reported to walk toward there...

3.Most parts of Sichuan are out of electric power, water and food, some parts are under heavy rains...Especially, Du Jiangyan, the famous ancient hydro junction, was heavily destroyed, which may cause flood. Fourtunately, the Three Gorges Dam was slightly affected.

4.Up to now, the most serious casualties happened in Bei Chuan, nearly 8000...and, it may increas. As to the epicenter, Wen Chuan, only God knows what kind of terror place it will be, for no survivors run out, telecommunication out of service. Now, it is 3:30 am alreay, many Chinese are still watching the latest media report...

God Bless us all!
