Pro-choice politicians take Communion
The Washington Times ^ | 5-9-08 | Julia Duin

Posted on 05/09/2008 11:54:31 AM PDT by JZelle

Despite a 2004 order from the future Pope Benedict XVI barring pro-choice Catholic politicians from the Communion table, a quintet of elected officials flouted his wishes twice during his recent six-day visit here by partaking of the sacrament right before his eyes.

The bishops whose job it is to enforce the pope's wishes have been all over the map in responding. While New York Cardinal Edward Egan publicly chastised former New York Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani for taking Communion during an April 19 Mass at St. Patrick's Cathedral, the bishops of Washington, Boston and Norwalk, Conn., have not disciplined members of their flock who partook April 17 at Nationals Park.

In fact, Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, a liberal Massachusetts Democrat, got a personalized delivery of Communion, said Dan Skehan, a businessman from Lancaster, Pa., who sat in Section 216 directly above the senator.

Minutes before the rest of the enormous crowd lined up to receive the sacrament, Mr. Skehan and his two sons spotted a priest making his way down the steps to the senator to hand him the consecrated host.

"It was obviously prearranged," Mr. Skehan said, "maybe out of regard for his girth and lack of mobility. I turned immediately to both my sons and said, 'Oh my gosh, look at that.' Everyone in my section, which was filled with people from Lancaster, said, 'That is outrageous. How could they do that?'"

As a Catholic, there are few things that make me angrier than the bishops & priests who aid and abet these pro-abort politicians in their continued and purposeful desecration of communion. It has to stop.

I believe a special, extra nasty place in Hell has been reserved for these blasphemers.

In the mean time, shame on the Catholic church for not having the gumption to call them on it.

The Pope is just going to have to de-frock the priests, bishops and other clergy who disobey his direct orders. If he doesn't do this, then it will only ferment more insubordination in the ranks.

“’That is outrageous. How could they do that?’”

Yet he keeps getting re-elected by all those same Catholics and I am sure others.

Why doesn’t the Catholic church discipline the priests who have been instructed not to do so? On the other hand, if Kennedy et al, have gone to confession and confessed their sins prior to receiving the holy eucharist, there’s not much th priest can do.

As Catholics, all we can do is pray for these people.

I can’t imagine how ANYONE could receive the Body & Blood of Jesus Christ in Holy Communion and not be in the state of grace???

And for these priests who KNOW who these people are to give them Holy Communion after the Holy Father has instructed them not to is outrageous!

As a non church going Catholic I see the faith of my father going down the drain. The priests are more secular than ever. No matter what the Pope says they are doing what they well please. Here in the town where I live the priest doesn’t say anything when the two homosexuals, who sit down in front, kiss each other during the handshake of peace. In another town when the congresswoman won the election, the parish priest congratulated her in church and posted a congratulatory letter in the vestry. She’s pro abortion, even partial birth abortion. I’ll be damned if I let a socialist priest on my property and I will stay off his property. Damn them.

If the bishops would enforce this rigorously, maybe the average catholic would realize the importance of the issue and stop voting for pro-abortion politicians. If the pro-death Democrat party were unable to count on the catholic vote, they would be forced to change or face oblivion.

The squishiness of so many bishops sends a powerful message - the importance of abortion is somewhere between mohair subsidies and foreign aid for Lichtenstein

Thank you!

I thought maybe this was something new that I hadn't been informed of. LOL

Article must have been written by a atheist. LOL

Their confession is no good unless they are sincere and repentant.

My daughter has been asking me to come to her parish with her family, I resist and don’t go.

This is one of the reasons, it appears to me they really aren’t pro-life.

Wrong -- part of confession is repetence and "sinning no more." If I confessed to an abortion and then went right out on the church steps telling everyone to Keep Abortion Legal, you can bet my priest could do something. That is the equivalent of what Kennedy, Pelosi et. al. do -- public and deliberate non-repentence and disobedience.

I am sympathetic for your bad experiences - we have all had them. But the Faith of your father is alive and well. If you are in a bad parish, vote with your feet until you find a good one. There are some great, holy priests out there - and they are bringing many re-verts back home to the sacraments. Don’t walk away! If you do, the bad guys win. Take back your father’s Church!

Add to this their desire to protect the illegals. Breaking laws of God & man does not make one a very reliable individual. That plus issues of Vatican II is some of the reasons I won't confess my sins to these individuals.

One is to repent and sin no more! At least to try and sin no more but abortion is a great evil and 50 million dead children and the continuation of that killing is supported and promoted by Mr. Kennedy and others like him. I cannot imagine the burden of that great sin and where it will take him.
