Wright's past, Obama's future
Chicago Tribune ^ | May 4th, 2008 | Clarence Page

Posted on 05/04/2008 11:12:59 AM PDT by The_Republican

After cutting ties with his controversial former pastor, Sen. Barack Obama received a word of sympathy from an unusual source: a Republican.

Former presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee says that Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr. wants to derail Obama's bid for the White House for a simple tactical reason: Wright does not want Obama to prove that America has made that much racial progress.

"His campaign is not being derailed by his race," Huckabee told reporters following a fundraiser in Montana. "It's being derailed by a person who doesn't want him to prove that we have made great advances in this country."

Huckabee, himself a Baptist minister, added that "Jeremiah Wright needs for Obama to lose so he can justify his anger, his hostile bitterness against the United States of America."

It's hard to imagine that Wright would turn on the rising political star whom he led to Jesus Christ two decades ago at Trinity United Church of Christ on the South Side, when Obama was a community organizer. Yet, Wright has been offering enough evidence to indicate that "Pastor Huck" might have uncovered an awful truth.

Obama's repudiation of Wright came after Wright blew an opportunity at the National Press Club news conference to smooth the nationwide feathers he has ruffled.

In stark contrast with the sedate, almost scholarly discussion Wright gave to Bill Moyers on PBS' "Bill Moyers Journal" the previous weekend, Wright turned up the heat.

He repeated his assertions that the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks were American "chickens coming home to roost" and that the United States had committed "terrorism" against minorities at home and abroad.

He defended the polarizing Minister Louis Farrakhan with enough enthusiasm to cause further damage to Obama's rainbow coalition.

Wright is a crackpot whose ideas rival some of the most destructive racial ideas ever in the 20th century. That such vitriol is granted any creedence in this day and age just shows how poor an education many of our citizens possess. Think Hutus and Tutsis, Zimbawe, Germany Armenia and many other ruinous times for humanity. Very discouraging.

I don’t think Wright believes his stuff, but it sure is a way to build a big Black church and make money.
“Follow the money....’ Wright was paid off by the Clintons, for sure.

Wright is a man of the past. Obama is a man of the future.

And the future is not now, and the past is so, like, yesterday. And the present is, uh.... not helping Michelle's kids, so vote for Obama! (Even Mike Huckabee supports him -- well, he doesn't actually support him, but we're desparate, so we'll even quote him as an authority.)

Huckabee isn't exactly what I would call a "man of God" either! He and Wright are a lot alike. They extrapolate what they want from the Bible and use it for their own personal gain. If we never hear from either one of them again, it will be too soon for me! We really dodged a bullet on the Huckster!

Blah blah blah, which is all the ChiTrib can say in support of Barak. They are clearly on the payroll or at the very least hoping he’ll be elected so they can achieve a degree of relevance for the next four years.

Pathetic public relations trash coming from a once-great newspaper. It’s nothing but fishwrap now. Might as well print it on garbage bags and be done with it.

I’ll put Obama in the same camp as Wright.

I never heard Obama speak of the United State favorably.

He has run as the stealth candidate however the picture of him is beginning to unfold. It’s not good.

Exactly what does Huckabee "extrapolate" from Scripture that he uses for his own personal gain - be specific.
