President Bush gave his Radio Address today from Crawford TX. The focus of the speech was the economy. Friday evening, VP Cheney attended a fundraiser in Tulsa, Oklahoma. US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice returned to the Middle East on Saturday to provide a badly needed shot in the arm for the Middle East peace process ahead of a visit by President George W. Bush.
Commemorative items for the upcoming wedding of first daughter Jenna Bush and her fiance Henry Hager are now on sale at The Red Bull in Waco, Texas.

President's Radio Address
THE PRESIDENT: Good morning. This week, the Commerce Department reported that GDP grew at an annual rate of six-tenths of a percent in the first quarter. This rate of growth is not nearly as high as we would like. And after a record 52 months of uninterrupted job growth, April was the fourth month in a row in which our economy lost jobs, although the unemployment rate dropped to five percent.
My Administration has been clear and candid on the state of the economy. We saw the economic slowdown coming, we were up front about these concerns with the American people, and we've been taking decisive action.
In February, I signed an economic growth package to put more than $150 billion back into the hands of millions of American families, workers, and businesses. This week, the main piece of that package began being implemented, as nearly 7.7 million Americans received their tax rebates electronically. Next week, the Treasury Department will begin mailing checks to millions more across the country. And by this summer, it expects to have sent rebates to more than 130 million American households. These rebates will deliver up to $600 per person, $1,200 per couple, and $300 per child.
This package will help American families increase their purchasing power and help offset the high prices that we're seeing at the gas pump and the grocery store. It will also provide tax incentives for American businesses to invest in their companies, which will help create jobs. Most economic experts predict that the stimulus will have a positive effect on the economy in this quarter and even a greater impact in the next. And Americans should have confidence in the long-term outlook for our economy.
While getting more money back in the hands of Americans is a good start, there are several additional steps that Congress needs to take to ease the burdens of an uncertain economy. Americans are concerned about energy prices. To increase our domestic energy supply, Congress needs to allow environmentally safe energy exploration in northern Alaska, expand America's refining capacity, and clear away obstacles to the use of clean, safe nuclear power.
Americans are concerned about rising food prices. Yet, despite this growing pressure on Americans' pocketbooks, Congress is considering a massive farm bill. Instead, they should pass a fiscally responsible bill.
Americans are concerned about making their mortgage payments and keeping their homes. Yet Congress has failed to pass legislation I have repeatedly requested to modernize the Federal Housing Administration that will help more families stay in their homes, reform Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to ensure they focus on their housing mission, and allow state housing agencies to issue tax-free bonds to refinance sub-prime loans.
Americans are concerned about their tax bills. With all the other pressures on their finances, American families should not have to worry about the Federal government taking a bigger bite out of their paychecks. So Congress should eliminate this uncertainty and make the tax relief we passed permanent.
America is now facing a tough economic period, but our long-term outlook remains strong. This week we saw evidence that our economy is continuing to grow in the face of challenges. This should come as no surprise. No temporary setbacks can hold back the most powerful force in our economy -- the ingenuity of the American people. Because of your hard work and dedication, I am confident that we will weather this rough period and emerge stronger than ever.
Thank you for listening.

I think those items in #10 are a bit tacky and I bet Laura is appalled. But they will probably be worth something on e-Bay in 50 years when historians get around to declaring W one of the best presidents ever.
Ohhh...those are so cute. Jenna looks so happy.
thank you president bush
You continue to be a great leader and a hero of the 21st century.
I suppose those wedding memorabilia things are tacky but I so want one of those little cowboy hats and one of the leather coasters!!
Thanks for the ping and the dose Daisy !!!
Thanks again for all your efforts, daisy.
I have no idea why my post was removed.
I did not see the post #18 and am wondering what it was and why it was removed? Thanks...freepmail is fine if you don’t wanna say on the thread. Starwise is not a troll by any stretch. Thanks.
I probably jumped the gun by saying they are “tacky” because Jenna and Henry are a lovely couple and those TX boots are kinda cute.
Agreed and I know he can't wait to get home to TX and he will have the comfort of knowing he served his country well.
Hi snugs. Hope you are having a great weekend.
My favourite tie !!!!
My favorites are always the ones with a picture of the Bride and Groom together...and maybe a little candy for the little kid in me.
I think it's sweet that they made them all to be just like wedding favors so more people in the country can share in their celebration. You can tell that Jenna is really sweet...just like her Mom.
I think I saw some coffee mugs with their picture on it in the above pic.
daisyscarlett: THANK YOU for posting the DOSE tonight! GREAT JOB!

BUSH ‘R’ IS FOR ‘RIGHT’
By Lawrence Kudlow
President George W. Bush may turn out to be the top economic forecaster in the country.
About a month ago he told reporters, Were not in a recession, were in a slowdown. At a White House news conference a few weeks later, despite the fact that reporters pressed him to use the R word, Mr. Bush refused. And on Friday, after the most recent jobs report — which produced a much-smaller-than-expected decline in corporate payrolls, a huge 362,000 increase in the more entrepreneurial household survey (the best gain in five months), and a historically low 5 percent unemployment rate (4.95 percent, to be precise) — the president told reporters: This economy is going to come on. Im confident it will.

Wonderful Dose tonight and early. I love Vice President Cheney’s yellow tie. The President’s radio message for Saturday was just so right on. I hope he speaks up a lot about conservative issues.
I can’t wait for the the wedding. Dr.Deb put up a website in last nights Dose that has everything you would want about the wedding. It is total coverage right up to May 10th!
That comment touched my heart as well! Thank you for the photo!
I apologize for not pinging you, but I just talked about the website you put up on last nights Dose that covers the wedding beautifully. I don’t know how to link so just mentioned that it was in yesterdays Dose. I went on the sight and it was so much fun! Thank you.
That’s quite alright!
Here’s the link to which you referred (and you’re right, it is a lot of fun!):
IN CELEBRATION OF THE WEDDING OF JENNA BUSH & HENRY HAGER
http://wideawakes.net/community/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=10245&sid=cf56143e3b4a9151aec18842ec63611a

Nak Armstrong and Anthony Camargo of Austin-based jewelry company Anthony Nak have designed these earrings for first daughter Jenna Bushs May 10 wedding, an Anthony Nak spokeswoman confirmed today.
Brandy J. Smith, marketing coordinator for Anthony Nak, said, We are doing Jennas earrings for the wedding. Other than that we cant say anything until after the wedding. Of course, Anthony and Nak are very happy for Jenna and are excited about the wedding.
The earrings are custom-made chain-framed minted iced quartz with diamond details in 18-carat white gold and platinum. They will be worn with an Oscar de la Renta gown that Bush will wear for the evening ceremony at her familys Crawford ranch.
Thanks for the links. I am looking forward to the photos tomorrow of the Pres. in Kansas.
I loved the photos of Cheney. He seemed so humble at the great audience reaction to him. I hope he knows that most conservatives love and appreciate him.
Some of the souvenirs that Great Britain has put out in the past are very valuable now. I remember seeing I think on the Antique Roadshow a complete set of china in commemoration of some royal event decades ago. (Maybe Queen Elizabeth’s wedding) It was exquisite and made by Wedgwood or some famous company.
We have an old waste bin which was an unofficial Charles/Diana wedding souvenir my nan loved it and it is still in use in dad's bedroom. The photo on it is the engagement photo whereas the official souvenirs were all coats of arms etc.
I do miss seeing that dear lovely girl. I will never get over the images of their wedding. What a wonderful time it was to watch their love develop, the beautiful wedding and their children being born.
Now it's like remembering a flower that has since faded away. Sigh....
Thank you very much, daisy, for all your
efforts .. ;)
I think Pres. Bush is the Energizer bunnys
first cousin. He has a reserve of SO much
energy and vitality, its amazing.
I can only imagine how emotional and teary
hell be at the wedding. Gosh, I wish we
could see a bunch of pictures.
I have a feeling both he and Laura will give
her away together. Such an extraordinarily
lovely and close family. I can only wish for
them the the joy and deep, committed lifelong
love and mutual support of her parents. God
bless their marriage and life together.
Thats a cute gesture of the wedding tokens, if
some are a bit tacky. After all, as mentioned,
look at the dozens of mementoes they made for
Charles and Diana .. LOL.

President Bushs Personal Recession: Jennas Wedding
While President Bush acknowledged Tuesday that Americans are experiencing very difficult economic times, he failed to mention his biggest personal financial woe: daughter Jennas pending nuptials to fiancé Henry Hager.
The cost of the first twins wedding has become such a running joke at the White House that Fred Fielding, counsel to the president, recently gave Bush a piggy bank to help him save up for Jennas May 10 wedding at the familys ranch in Crawford, Texas.
Fielding, a former father-of-the-bride who feels the presidents pain, tells the Sleuth Bush thanked him for the piggy bank but joked, Not big enough.
Poor Dad. The wedding would have cost him a lot less, of course, had Jenna decided to have it (on taxpayer-funded property) at the White House. Instead, she opted for a more intimate (200 people) and informal wedding on the ranch.
*snip*
The Sleuth hears from good sources in the know that the wedding list was capped at first cousins.
*snip*
*******
Our sources say a White House celebration in honor of the couple is planned for the weekend of June 20. The Sleuth anxiously awaits an invitation... well let you know what happens.

Yay .. there will surely be pictures from that .. ;)
