They’ve already said they didn’t find any bodies.

Of course, no mention has been made of the reported crematorium, and I guess nothing would stop them from trucking bodies elsewhere.

You DO recognize the difference between a picture of a naked girls back, and the pregnancy of a fourteen year old by her 50 year old uncle?

You do, don’t you?

The minimum age for marriage in Texas with parental consent is 16.

It is unlikely this will apply to polygamists, as one can only legally marry one wife. Any other wives who are under the age of consent would be considered statutory rape.

What kills me is the blind eye that has been turned towards this by the LDS powers that be. They are operating under their name, albeit as a presumed “offshoot” but one would think with the issues the church has has historically they would nip this stuff in the bud as quickly as possible using their vast resources to expose these deviants operating with their name.

It also creates a case where people try to obfuscate the issue by discussing the religion instead of the fact it was, under Texas law, aggravated sexual assault.

You're obfuscating, not us. There is a big difference between a guy who on his own or with one or two accomplices robs a bank, and a large group, crossing several states with a radical ideology that takes to robbing banks to fund a revolution. Both are guilty of breaking the same laws, the the scale, reach and implications of the latter group succeeding makes them a much bigger threat to our society. Which is why the FBI is more concerned about groups like the Symibionese Liberation Army, Weather Underground or The Order than they are about Joe Sixpack, bankrobber.

Of course they would like to catch both, but the priority is on the larger more organized cult.

So it is here. The child molesting cult of FLDS is a bigger problem then bad uncles and playground perverts. It is being treated as such by Utah and Texas, and I applaud them for it.

This new information should be used as evidence to go after the remaing breeding compounds and end this horror once and for all.

Thanks for that post. I followed the Jeffs case a little but didn’t know that. However I’ve suspected the boys could be being abused also, these guys are evil!

16 with parental consent if the other party is the same age. 17 if there is less than three years difference in age. Under 16, it is aggravated sexual assault no matter the age of the other party or supposed parental consent.

The site I was looking at did not list the caveats you are mentioning.

Yes, Coco. It was a stretch to connect the sexploitation of 15 year old Hannah with the statutory rape of the FLDS girls. I’m sure no one will be penalized in any way for the sexploitation of Hannah. Just another career move overseen by her parents.

I think that pretty much any community based on polygamy is going to be a target of closer scrutiny precisely because the culture is, in many respects, based on breeding new wives for the leaders of the community. And given that the facts of this case are in line with a pretty well-established pattern, I think they should be scrutinized more closely -- both for the sake of the girls who are being impregnated at very young ages; and for the sake of the boys who are cast out of the community to ensure a "proper" male/female ratio.

Indeed. I think fed $ flow into some of these states that openly tolerate this kind of stuff needs re-evaluation.

For example, in Utah, polygamous communities and polygamous concentrations reportedly exist in Hildale, Motoqua, Paiquin area, Bluffdale, Manti, as well as the St. George area on south in Washington County, plus concentrations in Salt Lake County, Davis County, and Juab County.

Marriage is being continually redefined in these areas along with communities like Colorado City and Centennial Park, AZ, & Pinesdale, Montana, etc.

Why if these states treated same-sex "marriage" the way they've tolerated polygamy, we'd have SSM widely embraced already in those states!

Too bad because Mitt is a pretty damn smart guy we could use.

Romney is a liberal. Why would you want two liberals on the republican ticket?

So what exactly is happening here that isn’t happening on your average inner-city block in the twenty largest metropolitan districts in the country?

You're obfuscating, not us.

I'm not saying you (or your approach) is, I am referring to the ones who try to say this is a case where this is religious beliefs are being violated or make it about these poor little cultists who just want to be left alone and try to make it a Waco type comparison. The crime is sexual assault, your points are good that it is part of a larger pattern, however, when a party goes to court, the crime they are charged with is the same no matter what the religious affiliation.

Odd how the ACLU is rushing against Texas’s Children’s Services and FOR the cultists. They only come out only for their own. Aside I wonder, where is the ACLU when precious innocents are torn limb by limb from their mother’s wombs?

Of course the boys should be sheltered from abuse as well as the girls.

With generations of incest and “natural” childbirth comes birth defects and high infant mortality—I’m not making an accusation of murder.
