It is Green Week at NBC, after all, so who can blame Andrea Mitchell for recycling two dilapidated defenses of the Rev. Jeremiah Wright?
Andrea's heart didn't seem wholly in it, but like a burned-out public defender going through the motions, Andrea Mitchell apparently felt constrained to mount some kind of defense of Rev. Jeremiah Wright's controversial remarks. And so she trotted out two hoary chestnuts:
* that's the way it's done in African-American churches, and * media critics say he was "taken out of context."

Rev. Wright taken out of context and you guys don’t get black churches ping to Today show list.
The only context Wright’s words would have been acceptable is if he was quoting someone else. But sense they were HIS words and beliefs, there is no context that his words were acceptable.
You can listen to 30 minutes or 30 seconds of Wright’s B.S. and it is the same. Nothing was taken “out of context”.
He’s an American hating bigot and there’s no way anyone could sit in his church for 20 years and not know that.
Again I marvel at your ability to watch this stuff without putting a brick through the TV.

Isn’t it weird how this “out of context” excuse always comes up, but nobody bothers to explain the context where it would have made sense.

There’s no way anyone could sit in his church for 20 minutes, let alone 20 years, and not know that.

In honor of green week, perhaps it’s time NBC throws ol’ Mitchell onto the compost heap.

Nobody has yet come up with a context in which "God, damn America!" has any meaning other than its prima facie. This includes Andra--whose contortions might land her a job at Cirque du Soleil but are a disadvantage to a serious journalist.
In some black churches, to be sure...
