Pete Rose served his time in the Federal prison in Marion, Illinois. A maximum security prison that has a bad reputation.
He owes $2.7 million? More than I’m likely to make in my lifetime.
As punishment, Snipes is going to be cryonically frozen until 2032.
They got 4 1/2 and 10 years.
Wrong.
He got 3 years. I year each. Consecutively. He will do 85% of 3 years, assuming he behaves himself.
Owed 30 paid 5 million.
Paid $5 mill on his $20+ mill total balance due.
He will pay 100% of every dime that he owes. Tax, penalty and interest. Plus he gets to pay his attorneys.
That's another 15 to 20 mill. He's only begun to pay.
There is no federal "parole." Only 15% "good-time." He will do at least 85% of the 3 years.
Hmmm isn’t tax evasion a white collar crime that gets people sentenced to tame prisons?
Or is that only in the movies.
I wonder why he can’t just pay what he owes.
Makes me feel better about my long term plans of buying a large sailboat and leaving the good ole USA behind. I will ghost in and out but I have lost my loyalty for America.

Well, Mr Snipes did accomplish something most of us will never have the courage to do...he stood up against the Federal Government unflinchingly for what he believes in. I have the utmost respect for Mr. Snipes for that.
Tax avoidance and tax evasion are two different things. If I were the judge, however, I’d let the guy go.
The control freaks set up this stupid little game. If you’re good at it, you can structure a lot of savings. It’s a shame that it rquires so much otherwise productive time and energy to live like that though. The Fair Tax would be so much easier.
