Daves: I won't bow to national GOP...Daves said the ad is not race-baiting

Linda Daves, chairwoman of the N.C. Republican Party, says she will not bow to pressure from the Republican National Committee or John McCain to pull a new ad the state party has prepared linking Democratic gubernatorial candidates Beverly Perdue and Richard Moore to Barack Obama's controversial preacher.

"This is not about the RNC," Daves said, reports David Ingram. "It is about North Carolina, our values and two Democrat candidates who are out of synch with the values of North Carolina."

Caroline Valand, executive director of the N.C. Democratic Party, said the ad represents a return to the Republican Party's "Southern strategy" of using race to appeal to white voters.

"They don't have the money to put behind it," Valand said, "so they're using old, Southern, racial politics."

Daves said the ad is not race-baiting.

"The accusation of race-baiting is one of the oldest-used tools to try to drive a wedge between the people of North Carolina," she said.

Perdue's campaign issued a statement calling the ad "gutter politics that voters will see right through."

A Republican shows some gumption and the RNC & McCain howl in anguish. How delicious! LOL!

I don’t know enough about this particular situation to actually take sides — but I do like to see a Republican with a spine who doesn’t feel the need to apologize over every little perceived slight.

I just heard this ad on both BOR and Rush and it is a damn good ad, and right to the point.
It has the infamous God d*mn America clip right on it, and that is exactly what most here have been saying needs to be done this election.

Yet here comes McCain with a response trying to order her to stop with the ad.
I also heard his little blurb on the radio and it was very, very disheartening.

My opinion of him sinks lower all of the time, and even though I have tried to keep an open mind, it seems as if McCain's campaign slogan should be:

“no back without a knife in it.”

I think she and the other R’s in NC are just being “MAVERICK’s” in the GOP, something McCain and the Left-wing media should love!

Linda Daves should be the chairwoman of the RNC.

My first reaction to this was to be annoyed with McCain, but what you say here makes me wonder if I should be....

McCain gets to stay above the fray and ask for a "respectful" campaign, and the ad gets much wider play than it would have if he'd just ignored it. Hmmm....

Bookmark this thread folks.  It is the first of literally thousands of articles that will address this dynamic over the next eight years, if McCain is elected.  The RNC and McCain will team up to turn the party into their liberalist vision of what it should be.  Anyone who disagrees will get the full treatment.  And who advocates for true Conservatism during those years?  You and I if we have a thick enough skin to wade through the McCain appologists.

I’m not so sure. It will be interesting to see how her future career goes. I’m guessing she has a bright future should McCain be elected.

What will he do when it is he who needs to run these ads against Obama himself?

I already know. - you do, as well.

The man I would vote for would be the man making the points this lady is. It would not be the man who was too stupid to know she was right, or was willing to let her carry the water if he knew she was right.

John McCain gets littler every day.

"Linda Daves for Vice President!"

She has too much nerve to be McCain's VP. Let's not waste a resource like that.

Linda Daves should remind NCDNC’s Valand that it is her (dem) party that has a former klansman in the Senate. It is her dem party that resisted civil rights, imposed poll taxes and to this day takes special note of folks’ color. North Carolina needs to be reminded about the true legacy of the Democrat party’s penchant for racism.

Thanks pointsal! I don’t see why the Democrats have a problem with this ad. Linda is, whether or not she knows it, putting the Democrat philosophy before the American people. The Democrats have damned America in so many ways. And they continue to do so. The Democrats want to shift the discussion and make it appear that Linda is engaging in racism. She is merely engaging in the truth, and that is something the Democrats abhor!
