I searched for any evidence of that, and all I could find were bloggers and forum posters making the same unfounded association. None had any citation, link, or other reference.

Can you provide evidence that the principal of your local school is there because of affirmative action? No? Yet, odds are she is.

Thanks for the reply. There is something I’ve noticed about her piano accompaniment to her music. It seems odd after listening to the better known rock pianists of the past few decades. She plays a sort of key tickling, almost classical accompaniment that doesn’t seem to fit her music to me. It’s a distraction at times, whereas the older piano men and women seemed to play a sort of rhythm piano, becoming the rhythm of a song as much as the drums or bass at times.
Just observations of one not trained in music. What is your assessment of her piano accompaniment to her music? Does it seem to go together to you?
No, of course not. My challenge was mostly, but not entirely, rhetorical. Not entirely, because a growing number of famous people who were beneficiaries of Affirmative Action have been willing to come out in public and say, "I wouldn't be where I am were it not for Affirmative Action."
So it's not impossible that -if- she made such a remark in an interview, etc., it would be available. I could find no such association, that's all.
I would point out that Justice Clarence Thomas suffered under the exact same suspicion that you direct at Keys. Thomas has stated his opinion that, in his early career, his Yale law degree was not taken seriously by law firms to which he applied, who assumed that it was obtained because of affirmative action policies. I'm sure you're willing to take Justice Thomas at his word that the suspicion was unfounded and unfair. In the absence of indications otherwise, is it that painful to extend the same courtesy to Keys?

Of course I would tend to believe her, and for several reasons. One of those reasons is that such a statement would come at very great cost to her. She would be shunned and blacklisted by Liberals for such a pronouncement, which could very well end her career.

I'll be honest and say I've not noticed that particular thing, but I'll try to look for it (again, I'm not really a fan so that'll stretch me a little). Self-accompaniment styles run the gamut.
But I can pose an example for a question. Here's a live solo vocal-over-piano ... Do you mean her right-hand playing style, especially in the intro and close?
Not to my knowledge. Google doesn't provide any links that seem to tie her with the phrase, except for some pages which index her songs along with a god-awful rap song called "Affirmative Action", whose lyrics are unprintable here. Ugh.

Johnson, with his Great Society, can lay claim to causing more misery and death in the Black community than any other president.

The young lady is right. In fact, I personally orchestrated the conspiracy to use gangsta rap to keep the black people down. It has worked according to plan for the most part; but I was unpleasantly surprised by the emergence of “platinum grillz” and other aspects of hip-hop fashion. It was only my intention to keep the black man down...not to make him look like a rodeo clown.

Everything is political nowadays, including the weather.
Here is the point: Unfortunately, some of the best music is made by people who are idiots at politics. The same is true for many other products. As a rational consumer, I've decided to base my purchasing decisions on the quality of the product itself, not the politics of the producer.
I agree with you that the content of the awards and shows is spurious. I appreciate the amount of effort, energy, determination, etc. that goes in to pursuing a musical dream and taking it to that level.
That would be true even if the awards themselves were intrinsically meaningless.
Consider: I have a Bachelor's degree in Physics, earned in 1974. Today it's not worth a damn thing intrinsically. But it shows that I a) got into a good technical university, b) stuck out a full undergraduate haul, and c) graduated well (cum laude, 3.7GPA). You can state -- accurately -- that the information I learned is worthless today, but you can also appreciate the effort it took to get the degree.
That is my point about all those awards indicating that she's no slouch. They may not mean anything other than it took a lot of work to get them, but that's something.

She's good, IMO, though her style is not my cup of tea. Nevertheless I'll hold off judging her until she attains the age at which most performers create the "really great music" that we are holding her up against. She has a shot at it. Whether she achieves that is another matter for the future.
