Alicia Keys: 'gangsta rap' was merely government ploy to convince black people to kill each other

NEW YORK — There's another side to Alicia Keys: conspiracy theorist.

The Grammy-winning singer-songwriter tells Blender magazine: "'Gangsta rap' was a ploy to convince black people to kill each other. 'Gangsta rap' didn't exist."

Keys, 27, said she's read several Black Panther autobiographies and wears a gold AK-47 pendant around her neck "to symbolize strength, power and killing 'em dead," according to an interview in the magazine's May issue, on newsstands Tuesday.

Another of her theories: The bicoastal feud between slain rappers Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G. was fueled "by the government and the media, to stop another great black leader from existing."

And they want to disarm law-abiding citizens?

I don't think so.

By the government? No.

But by the left wing establishment, the Democrats, Hollywood, and the music industry, yes.

Those are the guys who want to keep blacks on the welfare plantation, and gangsta rap is one way to do it.

There was just someone in the news who was claiming this exact thing. I guess Idi Amin and Charles Taylor and the Hutus must have been raised on gangsta rap.

It was Moss, Jeremiah Wright’s replacement, who came up with the idea that it was white folk who were responsible for this kind of music.

A couple weeks ago, the Phil dude had some people on his show that were unhappy about the way they looked and wanted plastic surgery.

One of the malcontents was a young gal of Asian heritage, who wanted to have her eyes and face modeled to look more western.

No biggie so far...

Her mom then launches into a tirade about how this is all the western medias fault! I nearly fell outa my chair!

Let me get this straight...

YOU chose to come here...
YOU decide you want to look more European or whatever and...
Now it’s all OUR FAULT!!

I was so freakin P’d I was speechless.

> No surprise for me. A pretty face, and a brain stem. Oh well, you rarely can get it all.

Alicia would attend the prestigious Professional Performance Arts School of Manhattan, where she studied both jazz and classical composition, crediting influences ranging from Nina Simone to Stevie Wonder to Oscar Peterson to Frederic Chopin to Tupac Shakur.

After graduating as valedictorian of her class, she entered Columbia University at just 16, but soon took a leave to pursue her professional career.

Writing songs which reflected both her roots and her eclectic musical education, Alicia changed her last name to Keys and signed with Clive Davis’ J Records which released the five-time Grammy-winning Songs in A Minor in 2001.

Skyrocketing to superstardom, she’s since collected four more Grammys, plus eleven Billboard Awards, three American Music Awards, two MTV Video Awards, three NAACP Image Awards, six Soul Train Awards, a VH1 Award and a People’s Choice Award.

WHAT HAVE YOU DONE LATELY?

She’s an otherwise very smart girl who is just reflecting the cultural background noise around her. Older people she respects people say these things in front of her and she unwisely repeats them, forgetting that she is too famous to get away with conspiratorial talk.

It is all so clear now. The rap music is just a ploy to keep the brothas down, make em kill eachother, go on welfare, sell their food stamps to buy crack, steal stuff, and stay in jail. Rap is thus like the AIDS of music - a disease invented by the white devil to subjugate minorities! That’s why there ain’t no cure for rap - the racist kkkorporate music studios keep suppressing all new forms of non-ghetto trash noise.

Damn honkies!

I'm sorry, you misunderstood the intent of my comments.

Her politics are INDEED the topic of the thread, and many comments have been posted on that subject, disparaging her politics, with which I agree.

One unfortunate comment (pretty face and brain stem) went past her politics, and was a DEMONSTRABLY UNTRUE characterization. I responded to THAT FALSEHOOD, hoping to point out that despite her politics, she was not, in fact, stupid, but had achieved much in her life.

Funny thing is, I personally don't care that much for her music -- but as another musician, I honor her achievements in music nonetheless.

So let's disparage her politics here -- that's the topic. Just don't disparage musicians and that industry unnecessarily while you're at it. (We typically save that for the RIAA/MPAA hate threads...)
