Taxpayers fund Bill Clinton spending

Kenneth P. Vogel1 hour, 7 minutes ago

The Clintons have made a $100-million fortune since leaving the White House, but a Politico analysis found that hasn’t kept Bill Clinton from taking full advantage of the publicly funded perks offered to ex-presidents.

In fact, his presidential retirement benefits cost taxpayers almost as much as those of the other two living ex-presidents combined.

The price tag for Clinton’s federal retirement allowance from 2001 through the end of this year will run $8 million, compared to $5.5 million for George H. W. Bush’s and $4 million for Jimmy Carter’s during the same period.

Since 2001, Clinton has received more of almost every benefit available to former presidents — from his pension to his staff’s salaries and benefits to supplies. His $420,000 phone bill and $3.2 million office rent tab both nearly surpassed the totals rung up for those purposes by Bush, Carter and the late former presidents Gerald Ford and Ronald Reagan combined. As a group, they spent $484,000 on telephone service and $3.8 million on rent in the same span.

The figures come from congressional reports studying the presidential retirement program and from summaries of annual budget requests by the U.S. General Services Administration, which administers the program, created to allow former presidents to enjoy dignified retirements without having to take jobs that demean or commercialize the presidency.

Some of Clinton’s greater spending stems from the fact that he served eight years in office, qualifying him for a federal health insurance plan unavailable to one-term presidents, and that he selected office space in the high-priced Manhattan market.

I disagree at the low price tag assigned to Carter. What he has done and is doing has immeasurable cost. We could lay the entire cost of Gulf War I and II at his feet, for example. We won’t “pay” for Clinton’s perfidy until it arrives ballistically from China.

Add that to the millions in off shore accounts that they stole from taxpayers and they shoud lose everything they have in order to reimburse us for some of what they stole. They are pure evil.....!!

Lord won’t they just go away. Sort of reminds me of that movie with Michael Keaton called “Pacific Heights”. A young couple bought a dream home and renovated it up real nice. They decided to take in a tenant (bad move). Once Michael Keaton moved in he destroyed their house, their lives, and there was no getting rid of him because of the way tenant law is designed to protect tenants, no matter how bad.

Isn't that the job Bill Clinton has been doing since he took office?

Please don’t let this pair of grifters anywhere near the WH again.

What an absolute waste of our country’s resources. He should pay everyone in the country for putting up with his perjury.

There something very fishy (smelly) about that phone bill total. It seems to be at least double what is reasonable, possibly more like 8x what is reasonable, depending upon their specific needs. I wonder if they have some juicy ‘consulting’ slush fund fees to someone built into that.

I work in an office of 18 people, where the phones are frequently used for long distance calls, that pays about $10,000 per year (that total includes our long distance charges) for our T1 line that includes voice, data, and a long distance rate of just a few cents per minute. Unless Clinton has decided he just had to have a T3 line (which seems awfully hard to justify for his size of operation), I don’t know why they should be paying so much more than $10K per year for what would seem to be a very similar sized operation to ours.

I think that pic was taken just before he had his bypass surgery. I wondered why he looked so bad at the time. Of course, there may have been additional reasons.

What was it BJ (Bill Jefferson) said?

"I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Miss Lewinsky..."

LMAO!!! What a bunch of voluntary, terminal, serial victims! Maybe we ought to buy them all airfare to Iran, so they can all live out their masochistic fantasies without messing up the United States economy (or the paint on our cars)...
