All wars eventually end. Stupidity, however, endures forever.
You know where she stands when she employs the term “futile war”. And, like most Marxists without a sense of the military in history she trots out the “Tin Man” Gen. Odom to butress her case. Odom, who never was a geostrategist or someone with an understanding of Middle East complexities, must be nearing senility: Inter alia, He makes the claim that if Iraq falls apart the Kurds will not allow “them” to occupy their homeland. However, if the USA were not in Iraq, and had not protected the Kurds for nearly two decades, there would be no such thing now as Kurdistan.
Thoomas’s Middle East analyses are a mess. She is a woman who has allowed her prejudices to fester for many years. Her Syrian heritage leads her to support a Greater Syria, and thus she projects little pity for the pesky Christian Lebanese, religious Sunni, or for the Kurdish minority that occupies that former Maronite stronghold.
She is generally mute on Hizbollah. She cares little for Israel, and blames it for most of the problems facing the Middle East today.
She despises Gulf Arabs and has little good to say about the Turks (who occupied Syria for centuries).
Closter to home, she hates Republicans; they, unlike Democrats, are aware of the history of the bloody-handed Assad family and the history of terrorism that surrounds Iran’s Pasdaran and Kuds Brigade and don’t seem to want to play ball with the Islamo-fascists. Still, Helen may yet break bread and climb on the McCain bandwagon if he will only shake hands with Assad and Ahmadinezhad, and refuse to meet with Netanyahu. We shall see. Actually, this time I’m betting on Helen.
