You might be right, but, one also has to consider the possibility that it was either the teachers or somebody in the family that egged on the student to bring up the questions. Would it not have been sufficient to let the principal and the school district and the state know about the "errors" found in the textbook, and then let the authorities deal with the publisher and author in correcting those "errors"? I think an agenda was more at work than simply pointing out the "errors". The agenda was to use the book and the author's as tools to try to further their "global warming" hysteria.

Furthermore, it is apparent that the students in that class and the school had already been "brainwashed" with the liberal agenda regarding global warming, and anything that veered slightly off-course from what they had been fed previously, would trigger the questions from the student. Instead of the student asking what the truth was, he immediately launched an investigation into how the author and book were inconsistent with the version of truth that had been fed to them. That student had already been taught to think one way and anything that differed from that one way was therefore incorrect or needed to be investigated.
