Man with weapon cache charged with threatening Virginia Tech style massacre

MIAMI (AP) -- A 20-year-old with a weapons cache that included four AK-47s was arrested after threatening to re-enact a Virginia-Tech style massacre over the Internet, authorities said Thursday.

Oregon authorities learned of a March 25 Internet message allegedly posted by Calin Chi Wong in which he threatened to re-enact the Virginia Tech killings. Two days later, Homestead Police searched the home Wong shares with his parents and found the weapons in stacked on shelves in plain view, Det. Antonio Aquino said.

Wong had 13 firearms in all, more than 5,000 rounds of ammunition, some that could pierce armor, and 100 rounds in a heating clip with bullets meant to take down aircraft or military machines. He'd hidden two AK-47s in his parents closet and his parents said the guns did not belong to them, Aquino said.

Wong was charged with making written threats to kill or do bodily injury via the computer and bonded out for $7,500. Additional charges are pending, he said. A message left by The Associated Press at a phone number listed for Wong was not immediately returned Thursday evening. The phone at his employer, China King, rang unanswered. It was not known if he had a lawyer.

Homestead Police first noticed Wong when he went to the department in February to complain he had been ripped off for $800 over the Internet after he ordered a gun online using his father's Paypal account.

He told authorities he'd called the FBI, ATF and other agencies about the issue and had finally reached a boiling point when he posted the message saying he would re-enact the Virginia Tech massacre, Aquino said.

"After speaking to him and seeing his frustration, I believe that he had the potential to carry out some kind of threat," Aquino said.

...threatening to re-enact a Virginia-Tech style massacre over the Internet

That won't work. You can't get those bullets to go through those tiny little wires.

I don’t know...something seems a little strange here. I wonder if he were stupidly saying things to blow off steam.

What’s the point of having four AK-47s if you’re a solo killer?
It’s far easier, less bulky, more efficient, and far cheaper to simply carry one with multiple clips.

Can someone help me out here? WTF does that mean? Sounds bad, but I need some "AK" ammo like that.

Obviously whoever wrote the story is a journalism major or English is not their first language.

Too much askew here. Buying guns over the internet, 20 yrs old, pistols? I don't think so.

The freaking idiots in the media wouldn't know a rifle butt from a cigarette butt.

"and 100 rounds in a heating clip with bullets meant to take down aircraft or military machines"

Uh, the AK-47 is a powerful (albeit quasi-accurate) rifle, but what type of "military machines" can he wax with 7.62 X 39? Bradley IFV? A-10 Warthog?

Did he have steel-tipped, armor piercing ammunition? That would pose a serious threat to a SWAT unit, but how could he bring down an F-16 with that???

The stupidity of the media is simply amazing.

Prole, you have it figured out about right. The only thing I would argue with is the notion that the 7.62X39 is a high powered rifle. It has the ballistics of a 30-30 Winchester. In my world that’s an OK rifle but not really considered high powered. It’s a fun round and with the right bullets is an OK deer rifle at short range but it sure isn’t a barn burner. This little punk needs to be locked up for a long time. He thinks he is big and bad but that is only because BUBBA hasn’t gotten a hold of him yet.

Absolutely.

Guys like this give good people who own firearms a really bad name. The scumbag also provides that idiot Pelosi yet another chance to stand in front of the microphone and lecture us about the need for Nationwide disarmament.

Highly recommended reading for any Democrats you might know:

I know.

I am also baffled by the "military machines" part.

The people who write articles today evidently hate lawful gun-owners, and show this hatred very clearly by over-hyping stuff and using raw emotion to state the "facts" of the case.

The "military machines" reference was probably meant to spook pro-military folks into the ridiculous need for disarmament.

What they really meant to say was: "Wong was going to kill everything with his murderous assault weapons, and he would have shot the military machines with his evil guns! Beware of anyone you know who owns a gun! They could be as evil as Wong!"

This Orwellian media would actually be funny if it weren't so damn scary. Thankfully, we can expose their slanted hatred for all things American courtesy Free Republic and other online venues. But getting news from The Media is really disgusting now that I think about it.

" A 20-year-old with a weapons cache that included four AK-47s "

How many guns is a "cache" and how many is an "arsenal"? I think I must be a few short, as I don't have any AK-47's.

Put him in Jail for 40 years for - allegedly - sending an email message?

Strange how FReepers criticize the Canadian CHRC (cf the Steyn case), but have their own blind spot about free speech.

He'd have better luck throwing a rock at a F-16, than using an AK - 47
