The only lactose-type non-milk alcohol beverage I’m aware of is pulque, made of agave in Mexico, which tops out at 2-3%.
We’ll have to ask. Great thread, though.

Thanks Blam. Looks like some researchers are trying to justify their use of grant money to take care of a really big bar bill. Probably not the first time that has happened though. ;') |

Huge stretch to claim "evolution" caused this characteristics in east asians ADH metabolic pathway however.
We are not talking about KILLING bacteria, but making it comfortable for them. Nice warm container in a warm yurt with plenty of warm milk ~ Hmmmmmmmmm!!!!!!!!!!
These guys went to "central heating" and quit living in tents, and next thing you know the lack of refrigeration should have been killing them off ~ except for the guys who couldn't tolerate alcohol!
