Democratic National Chairman Howard Dean has a plan that will produce a nominee before his party's convention in August, avoiding what he fears could be a "really ugly and nasty" fiasco.
Democratic leaders have begun complaining he has bungled the party's nominating process and alienated voters because of his failure to engineer a political compromise in the DNC's ill-advised decision to strip Florida and Michigan of all its delegates. But Mr. Dean, whose polls show the party's internecine warfare is hurting its chances in November, has been talking to party bigwigs about a deal and now says the delegations will be seated before the nominating roll of the states is called.
The conventional wisdom says the battle between Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton will go all the way to the convention. But Mr. Dean wants it over well before that, and possibly before the last of the 10 remaining primaries are completed in June. And it is likely that will happen.
The scenario Mr. Dean and party leaders fear most is a bitter political floor fight in Denver that will deeply divide the party and send a message to the country that if the Democrats can't govern themselves, how can they govern the country?
"There'll be some nasty fights if it goes to convention, and people will walk out," Mr. Dean told the Associated Press last week in an unusually blunt interview in which he said the candidates' bitter infighting threatened to demoralize the party's base and weaken its chances in November.
Mr. Dean's stern admonition to both candidates to stop the attacks on one another, telling their supporters to "keep their mouths shut," got lots of media attention. His plan to bring the nominating fight to an end, possibly before June, got little notice.

OPERATION CHAOS IS WORKING!!!
He is almost as stupid as Baarack.
democrats with power....
dangerous, disgusting, scu&bags in action.
Why is it so likely?
Dean has completely mismanaged the process so far.
His strategy of strongarming superdelegates before all the primaries are over doesn't exactly seem foolproof.
the nutcake SCREAMer has a plan? priceless.
Between Dean’s strongarming and the Clintons’ strongarming,
I’ll bet on the Clintons.
Yeah Howard - you put a saddle of Hillary’s ego!
You just go and to that!
We’ll see you at the funeral.
The ‘Toons do not like Dr. Demento-Dean, do they? Why does he think that Her Heinous would take his advice on anything. Quite the opposite, I would think.
Almost as stupid as the brain dead people thst vote for him,he blows his nose and they clap WTF?.
Not much of a “plan” if you ask me. Ask delegates to break their neutrality???
Oh brother.
It would be like if bill told hillary huma was great last night.
The essence of the plan is that Dean is pushing the super delegates to choose rather than wait, so that one of the candidates get a majority and win the nomination. The problem with that is that the superdelegates want to back the winner who will be the defacto leader of the party, potentially for 8 1/2 more years after the convention (the months before the election, then 8 years in office). If Obama or Clinton win they will be in power long after Dean is just a memory. Dean has some chits to play (mainly some small amount of party finance) but I think it pales compared to what the actual winner of the nomination has . . .
Here’s snickering at the Dems!
How does Dean turn off the Drive By Media?
They need blood!
A rauchous nasty convention equals RATINGS equals HISTORY equals EMMY AWARDS FOR COVERING RIOTS!!!!!!!
Deans is trying to steal their RATINGS!!!
The proposed solution:
Mr. Dean wants it over ... before the last of the 10 remaining primaries are completed in June.
If your solution is pretty much a repetition of your problem, then you may be on the wrong track.
Exactly right. If Clinton toady Bill Richardson is willing to go to the mattresses with the Clintons, what success would Dean have?
Dean makes the perfect poster boy for the Democrat party’s ability to run primaries/elections.
Classic dhimmirat MO -
if you don’t like the results you get according to the rules that are in place,
ignore the rules.
Not too hard to figure out who is bad-mouthing Howard Dean here -- and it isn't Obama.
Dean isn’t all that dumb. The real problem is that he is powerless. This situation is like two trains coming down parallel tracks toward a switch where the tracks join and slide into the station.
Neither one is about to slow down or obey any signals. Anyone who gets in the way will be flattened.
It ain’t over till the fat lady sings. On the one hand, the Dems don’t dare take it away from Obama, for fear of losing their lock on the black vote. On the other hand, hillary never lets anything stand in her way.
Those who support the winner will have assured political futures. Those who support the loser will be destroyed. So, who’s going to be first to commit themselves? Maybe this can be engineered behind the scenes, but both candidates have mob connections and spies, so, lots of luck keeping it secret.
If Osama-Obama does end up with the nomination I wonder if Bill and Hillary will go to the Convention and “make nice”.
I also wonder if she will make a “sweet” speech at the Convention promising to campaign for B. Hussein Osama-Obama and encouraging the nation to elect him President of these United States of America?
I cannot see Bill and Hill supporting him in the GE. She could still, conceivably, run again in 2012. She will be 64 years old. But, once you lose the nomination battle once, it’s over. There’s usually no “second chance”.
I THINK THE CLINTON’S MUST DESTROY HIM NOW OR SHE’LL NEVER HAVE THE DESK IN THE OVAL OFFICE.
