Enrico Fermi thought there was about a 10% chance the A bomb would ignite the nitrogen in the atmosphere

And, just prior to the Trinity test, he took wagers on his hunch from his fellow scientists. I find that sense of humor appealing in a scientist. :)

OTOH, it was stupid of Fermi offer such a bet.

If it does ignite, everybody loses. If it doesn't, then only Fermi, assuming the other geniuses realize there's only one winning bet, loses.
