In the UK, finds like this are property of the state and finders get a small reward and recognition.

Well, that just changes everything. it was the vikings that first pillaged, beat and stole land from American natives, not Anglo saxons. Then again, they are all "white" to white haters so maybe it doesn't matter. No doubt the claims will soon be rolling in about ancient stories from the elders on how they fed and clothed the vikings and kept them from starving to death.

You have to wonder how the Anglo saxons, vikings, french etc. managed to conquor all those foriegn lands before they ran into the American indian and were taught how to farm and survive....

I love treasure hunting. There are many ghost towns around here. But metal detectors are not allowed on private land without the owner’s permission. And it’s hard to get permission to use a metal detector on Government owned land (BLM). They are totally outlawed on all beaches, now, (as far as I know.)

This article makes me want to put fresh batteries in mine, and dig around here. Thanks for posting this.

"Sorry, where is Silloth Beach?"

See the (UK) in the title...that stands for United Kingdom. The British Empire, England.

It has a cemetery and with the soil erosion I have found cremation urns too. We’ve had some lovely finds.

Many bones perhaps? A Viking toast for that: Skull!

...dating back from between the first and fourth centuries..."

I wasn't aware that there were Vikings 2000 years ago, during the time of the Romans in Britain. I thought they started roving about 1300 years ago.

Too funny! Nothing says advanced technology quite like a flint arrowhead, a stone axe, and a travois (possibly pulled by a dog)...

If this was found on the seashore it could be wreck not treasure.

I plan to read the nonfiction book “The Rebel and the Rose” that deals with the mystery of the missing Confederate treasure. It was reviewed in The Washington Times.
