When he was COS of the Air Foece we absolutely loathed him. He’s the guy that came up with the star fleet command uniforms with navy insignia. He also gave us the pansy blue uniforms. Even my wife laughed at those.
He also banned the exposure of tee shirt white in the open collar summer uniform, mandating everybody going out and buying vee-neck tee shirts.

AMEN!!!! Merrill was widely considered a Grade-A buffoon by the troops. One can tell alot about a man by the company he keeps and Obama’s association with Merrill speaks volumes about his judgement.
Just prior to the TX primaries, Merrill was doing radio ads for Obama...he said he was the commander of the Air Forces during the Gulf War. Funny, I never knew COS’ ran theater air wars. Somebody should tell Chuck Horner.
Best bit was when (forgot his name!) his replacement as Chief of Staff showed up in the OLD AF uniform.
