Thanks a lot for all the info, mkjessup.

Recently (several months ago) diagnosed with diabetes2 and also have hypertension. Taking meds for both and lost 20 lbs...just by avoiding carbs and raw sugars, etc..

I will definitely look up the olive leaf extract...since the blood pressure is what bugs me most. (strokes run in family history)

Be well!

Hey there, DCP, you’re more than welcome.

One afterthought, if strokes run in your family, DO be careful if you are taking aspirin on a regular basis (to reduce the risk of heart attack or any other purpose) AND *if* you take any form of Ginkgo Biloba, my pharmacist advised me a long time ago that many people don’t realize that if aspirin (a natural blood thinner) and Ginkgo (an artery and vein dilator) combine, that it can -increase- the risk of stroke due to the tiniest veins in the brain becoming unable to prevent blood from ‘leeching out’ (not sure of a better way to describe it) into the brain tissues.

Now on the subject of diabetes, at some point you might want to look into some neat stuff called ‘Goji Juice’, it comes from a little berry in the Himalayans (and a lot of companies are marketing the daylights out of it ala Amway-style themes), one relative of mine was actually able to reduce the amount of insulin they were taking after drinking two ounces of Goji every day, as it definitely can drop your blood sugar. The purest Goji (IMHO) can be found at a website ‘www.freelife.com’, but be forewarned, the stuff isn’t cheap, lol!

Congrats on the weight loss, good luck FRiend!

Thank you very much for your post.

I do take a Bayer every morning...going on a year now. And Metformin 500mg 2X day. No insulin. And Cozaar for the blood pressure. Jeez...AND Lipitor!

When you type that out, you realize how OLD you really are! LOL!

OLE is one of my favorite herbal extracts. However, for hypertension reduction, I take celery seed extract, which is a natural diuretic. Lowers my diastolic BP by 10 points overnight; systolic even more. Celery seed extract has the benefit of not screwing up the potassium balance as do other diuretics.

Oh I know exactly what you mean, I'm not currently on any doctor-prescribed medicines, but one look at my medicine cabinet would convince anyone that I'm running a health food and supplment supply warehouse out of my home! LOL

If you remember a music artist by the name of Larry Groce and his tune "Junk Food Junkie", this YouTube video might amuse you! ;)

Re, Celery Seed Extract?

You are absolutely right about that, and I should have mentioned that too as an option in dropping blood pressure - I’ve tried it myself and the only effect I didn’t care for was that I found myself whizzing like the proverbial race horse!

But it’s good stuff, no question about it!

Yes, it is definitely not one of those herbs that “does nothing”. I’ve worn out the carpet on the way to the bathroom.

My daughter owns a potpourri manufacturing company and has a barrel of olive leaves. I need to google to see how to make the extract—if possible.

Where does one get Olive Leaf Extract?

You have to catch a lot of doves at the peace marches.

MI

Sounds like our house. We don't go to doctors and deal with any minor malady that may arise by googling or going to curezone.com.

I've found castor oil packs. Worked for a sore hip. I refuse to take drugs. They cure nothing.

I just read an article in our newspaper about this kind of surgery being very effective in treating diabetes. I can’t remember the details but I think it had something to do with the “communications” between the pancreas (where insulin is made) and the gut. Even if people re-gain weight they lost after the surgery, the improvement in blood sugar control remains. Sounds like you were on the ‘cutting edge’ with your surgery. [no pun intended ;)]

Thanks neverdem. The whole notion of a hypertension vaccine makes me nervous.
