Convicted Felon Abortionist is Now the Principal of a Chicago Elementary School

CHICAGO, March 20, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A convicted felon and abortionist responsible for the deaths of at least two women has been hired at a Chicago public school as the new principal. A spokesman from Mildred I. Lavizzo School in the greater Roseland area told a pro-life advocate that the Lavizzo school council were apprised of the full background of their new principal, Dr. Arnold Bickham.

Jill Stanek, a Chicago area pro-life activist and nurse posted a letter on her website from an 8th grader at the school, who said that students and teachers "aren't comfortable with being around him and we want help. If he has this kind of back ground (sic) he shouldn't be able to work in this type of organization because you'll never know what he will try to do."

Bickham's days as an abortionist were ended in 1988 when the state permanently revoked his medical license after the death of a patient, Sylvia Moore, but his criminal conviction was for defrauding government job-training funds to cover his abortion facility payroll. Bickham's license was revoked in 1970 after it was revealed he was attempting abortions on women who were not pregnant.

Two women, 26 year-old Sherry Emry and 18 year-old Sylvia Moore underwent abortions at Bickham's hands at his Water Tower Reproductive Center in Chicago; both died of complications. Emry bled to death from an undetected ectopic pregnancy and Moore with a lacerated uterus that still had a plastic surgical instrument embedded in it.

Bickham was sued by patients several times for malpractice for infection, internal injuries, perforated uterus, and hemorrhage.

Stanek said she spoke with Chicago Public Schools spokesman, Mike Vaughn, who told her, "I did confirm with the law department that the crimes he was convicted of were not enumerated offenses that state school code lists as prohibiting someone from working for the school district".

This is Chicago. He probably got a letter of recommendation from Obama. And probably sits on the board of the local Planned Parenthood chapter.

In 1979 Bickham spent 2 years in prison for "defrauding the government of job training money to subsidize the payroll of his Michigan Avenue clinic," according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

And in 1989, according to RealChoice.com, Bickham was arrested for practicing medicine without a license and sentenced to 30 months probation, 2,600 hours community service, and a $10k fine in lieu of 6 months in jail. Police found 3 handguns on the scene as well as drugs Bickham was obviously not licensed to dispense.

Maybe so, maybe no. It would be difficult to specifically enumerate all the crimes that should disqualify someone from being hired by a public school.

That still doesn't mean they had to hire him. Obviously they did so BECAUSE they liked his abortionist background. You don't hire people unless their background qualifies them for the job. Was this really the best candidate?

Another reason to stop making excuses for public schools.

Abolish the Dept of Education, and then work your way down.

It’s going to be tough, but what isn’t?

Yours truly,
The Woim

Arnold Bickham, once described himself to Zekman as “the most notorious physician in this city.” He indicated he made $1 million a year performing abortions. His medical license was temporarily suspended because, according to the state, he had operated on women who weren’t pregnant and rushed abortions so much that he didn’t even wait until the anesthesia set in.

Arnold Bickham of the Water Tower Reproductive Center, went from one abortion to the next without washing his hands or donning sterile gloves.

Abortionist Arnold Bickham, another big-bucks baby-killer from Chicago, performed an abortion on 18-year old Sylvia Moore on New Year’s Eve 1986. She slipped into deep shock and began bleeding, so Bickham called her “lazy” because she could not stand on her own. He then ejected her from the abortuary.

Bickham was the highest paid Medicaid recipient in the nation with $792,266 in 1974. In 1975, he was the highest paid in Illinois with $519,189. In 1976, he received $370,541, third highest in Illinois. This is a total of more than $1.68 million over a period of only three years.

"I did confirm with the law department that the crimes he was convicted of were not enumerated offenses that state school code lists as prohibiting someone from working for the school district".

I would like to see a list of felonies generated that are not on the list. My guess is the crime of bribery does not prohibit one from working for the school district. I laughed when I read that the spokesman used the "working" rather than employed. In Chicago lots of governmental units have longs lists of employees who are getting paid, of course in Chicago that only means they are collecting a check, it does not mean that they are working or even have to show up for work
