New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson finally made up his mind and endorsed Sen. Barack Obama today, but a senior adviser to Sen. Hillary Clintons campaign which likewise spent months courting the former Democratic presidential candidates nod dismissed its significance.
Look, I think that everyone has their endorsers, said senior Clinton strategist Mark Penn, adding with a little huff I think New Mexico is a state that, actually, we won.
The time that he could have been effective has long since passed, he continued. I dont think it is a significant endorsement in this environment.
Perhaps sensing that it may not be effective to dismiss out of hand a popular Hispanic governors political clout...
The New York Times offered a humorous account in late February about the different lengths the two campaigns had gone to, which included a personal visit from Richardsons old boss Bill Clinton to watch the Superbowl.
The former president had been particularly active in courting his endorsement. The AP reported that President Clinton at one point angrily asked Richardson, What, isnt two cabinet posts enough?

Uh, what else are they gonna say? Where's that Captain Obvious cartoon :)
I agree.
ouch
Well, let’s see: The Clinton bunch has insulted Blacks, now Hispanics. Who’s left for them to crap on? Asians? Eskimos? Whites?
of course...that’s why she had her husband, maddie albright and her surrogates calling him non stop.
James Carville called it an “act of betrayal” fwiw. the clinton clan thinks its significant, especially with superdelegates coming out. no doubt about it
Richardson sends a signal to superdelegates that they too should back Obama.
He has fooled the foolish voters of New Mexico better known as the next Atzlan.
Richardson is all talk and a suck up whose core values and benefits to America are marginal at best.
Other than being an opportunistic cockroach of the first kind he is a nice guy.
Has anyone else noticed how Bill Richardson has taken on a more Hispanic look? He has grown facial hair, dyed his hair black, and gotten a darker tan. Appearance is everything in politics.
This part was good :
President Clinton at one point angrily asked Richardson, What, isnt two cabinet posts enough?
LOL. If Richardson had endorsed Shrillary then of course the Clintonistas would be trumpeting how wonderfully important it is to have such a significant endorsement from a so-called “Hispanic” governor.

Well, Bill, ya gotta do whatcha gotta do, right???
A few weeks ago someone we all know - name escapes me at the moment - said to Richardson, at the conclusion of an interview, “Hey, nice facial hair” or something of the sort and Richardson looked kind of ticked by the remark.
Just your typical NM governor. :)
New Mexico PING!
Read the blogging that accompanies the article. I have not seen flaming like that on a board of a paper like WSJ.
Does the Ice Queen ever say anything?
There were some nasty comments.
Food fight between the DUmmies.
Preview of Denver in August ?
